As the release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is inching closer and closer, the excitement just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Thanks to the million versions of Spider-Man showing up in the film, fans cannot wait for June! One version of the web-slinging superhero is Yuri Lowenthal’s Spider-Man.
Yuri Lowenthal is responsible for bringing the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man to life in Marvel’s Spider-Man, a video game developed by Insomniac Games. The PlayStation Spider-Man is extremely popular and fans were thrilled to see him in the trailer of the sequel and even on the banner of the film. However, it might be a bit of a let-down, at least for now, that Yuri Lowenthal hasn’t been approached by the team to voice his Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Is Yuri Lowenthal Not in Across the Spider-Verse?
There are more than a handful of variants of Spider-Man in the upcoming Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel. Yuri Lowenthal’s PlayStation Spider-Man’s appearance in the trailer as well as the banner for the film only increased the fans’ excitement. However, talking to ComicBookMovie.com, Lowenthal revealed that he hasn’t been asked to voice the character in the movie. While the voice actor doesn’t know where the Studios are headed, he sure hopes he will get a call.
“I hope so. You know, I keep waiting for my phone to ring. There are many ways they could play that and one of those ways is, much like they showcased our suit in the background in the first film, you might just get to see him. I don’t know. I hope.”
Lowenthal also expressed that people might believe that he is absolutely desperate to play a part in the sequel. This is why he mostly refrains from talking about it.
“It always sounds desperate when I say, ‘Yeah, I would love to be in it.’ Then people report on that: ‘Actor would do anything to be in the new movie!’ I try not to talk about it too much because I don’t want to sound desperate, but I hope so.”
Not only does Lowenthal wish to get approached by the casting team for the role, but fans too. Having the iconic PlayStation Spider-Man in the film without Lowenthal will surely be a little bit of a disappointment. However, with the voice actor not being approached, it could essentially mean that his version of the superhero has only a minor cameo in the movie, with no dialogue to spare. There’s still time for the sequel to release so who knows, maybe Lowenthal will be getting that call soon.
Yuri Lowenthal Ready for Spider-Man 2
Spider-Man was released in 2018 and will soon be returning for a sequel, Spider-Man 2 this fall. Talking to ComicBookMovie.com, Lowenthal opened up about how the sequel to the video game is coming along. He stated that since it’s a “massive game” he still has a bit of work left to do. Lowenthal believes that the game is “astonishing” and meets high expectations perfectly. He is super excited for everyone to play it.
“I’ve still got a little bit to do. It’s a massive game so I’m still doing a little bit of work. I know they are confident about their release date and Insomniac has always been good about that. Obviously, I can’t really talk about the game much, but I will tell you that it’s astonishing. I’m so excited for you to play it. They know they’ve got big shoes to fill from the last two games and they’ve done it. I just can’t wait for people to play it.
The lead Spider-Man will be joined by Miles Morales. Venom and Kraven the Hunter are also set to appear in the game. That said, just like Lowenthal, we are also excited for the release as it looks like it’s going to be even more spectacular than the one before it.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is expected to release in the Fall of this year and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be released on June 02, 2023.
