"I don't have anything": Despite Oscars Win, Hollywood Won't Give Brendan Fraser Any Work

Even today, Fraser has proved that he is a dedicated actor as he won an Academy Award for Best Actor earlier this year for his work in Darren Aronofsky’s 2022 film The Whale. The movie received a six-minute standing ovation at the Venice International Film Festival. One must assume that the Oscars win helped him bag a lot of roles, however, that is not the case. The actor previously explained that he is not flooded with work.

For his work in the 2022 film The Whale, Fraser won several highly prestigious awards including a Critics’ Choice Movie Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and an Academy Award. He is the first Canadian to win the Academy Award for Best Actor. Directed by Darren Aronofsky, The Whale narrates the story of an English teacher named Charlie, who suffers from morbid obesity and tries to restore his relationship with his teenage daughter.

With positive reviews, the movie grossed roughly $54 million on a production budget of $3 million. The film also received a six-minute standing ovation at the Venice International Film Festival.
