The newfound equal-representation phenomenon has changed the things in the film industry but things weren’t as nice back then. Pressure from influential higher-ups led people loose out on roles. Harrison Ford Saved Anne Heche
Anne Heche went public about her s*xuality when she took her then-girlfriend Elle DeGeneres to the premiere of her film Volcano in 1997. Despite opposition from her colleagues, friends, and even DeGeneres she did not shy away from making her relationship public. But, soon enough she was forced not to attend her own film’s after party and was told she would be loosing her Fox contract for the movie Six Days Seven Nights. Hailing Harrison Ford as her hero, she recalls,
“I would not have gotten that movie. He called me the day after they said I wasn’t gonna get it, because I took Ellen to the premiere, and Harrison Ford, he was a hero. He said, ‘Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn who you’re sleeping with. We’re gonna make the best romantic comedy there is, and I’ll see ya on the set.’ He’s one of my heroes. He fought a battle for me, and I would be on any desert island with him any day.”
