Daniel Craig is a prominent and critically acclaimed actor in Hollywood and is widely known for portraying the MI6 agent, James Bond, in the action thriller franchise. Not only the British actor gave James Bond fans some of the best films under the franchise but also impressed them with his remarkable work in the Knives Out film series. It is his ability to bring the characters alive in a way that keeps fans eager to see him back on the big screen.
While many actors try and connect with their characters to give more authentic performances, it’s not the case with the Skyfall star. The 55-year-old actor has shared that he does not feel connected to his characters.
Daniel Craig Always Wanted to Make a Living As An Actor
Starring in the James Bond franchise has not only led Daniel Craig to gain worldwide recognition but has made him successful financially as well. He has reportedly made $85.4 million from starring in the action thriller franchise and signed a deal for $100 million to star in the Knives Out sequel and threequel.
Craig, who shared that all he “really wanted to do was make a living out of” his acting career, seems to be doing very well. During an interview with The New York Times, he shared that he sees his movie roles just as a job. He shared,
“I wanted not to have to wait on tables, which I’d been doing since I was 16. I figured that if I could do it and pay the rent, then I was a success.”
The Logan Lucky actor later shared that he feels like a normal human being and that he is “completely a mere mortal.” Craig, who portrayed 007 in five installments of the James Bond franchise, also shared why he does not feel connected to his character in one of the most popular franchises.
Daniel Craig Does Not Feel Connected to His Character
When asked if he feels “humbling” to play characters like James Bond, who are “capable and resourceful,” Daniel Craig said, “Well, I don’t feel like that anyway.” He explained that most of the time he feels like a normal human being and shared that he believes that everyone else feels the same.
“I don’t feel any connection to the characters I play. I mean at all. They’re just that. So many things have been put into perspective. It’s difficult not to just look at the world in a different way. I’m sure it’s the same for everybody.”
The Layer Cake star, who got emotional during the wrap party of his final James Bond film, No Time to Die, also shared that he is incredibly emotional. But he doesn’t choose to show that side of himself to the world, as it can lead people to form an opinion about him.
Although he does not feel connected to his characters, Craig shared that he got emotional during his speech as it was the end of something that he gave 15 years of his life to. So when it came to an end, he “choked up” a little bit.
