Henry Cavill’s time as Geralt of Rivia is drawing to a close, as the third season of The Witcher will mark his departure with an epic farewell, according to showrunner Lauren Hissric. This departure paves the way for Liam Hemsworth to enter the spotlight and assume the lead role for the fourth season.
The circumstances surrounding Cavill’s exit may be ambiguous, as those who followed his and Dwayne Johnson’s peculiar efforts to secure their roles in the now-disbanded DCEU can attest. However, regardless of the cause, it is undeniable that Cavill’s portrayal of the White Wolf has been commendable thus far. However, Cavill’s commitment to the character could’ve cost him big time.
Henry Cavill’s Contact Lenses Almost Blinded Him
Demonstrating a true Geralt-like indifference, Henry Cavill paid little heed to medical advice, causing his eye technician to caution him about the potentially severe repercussions. According to the actor’s recollection, the technician bluntly advised him to “take the bloody contacts out, because you will start to go blind after a while.‘”
“I was sure she was probably selling a slightly more dramatic version of the truth, because I do tend to be a bit stubborn like that. And I’ll say, ‘no, it’s alright we can shoot, a couple more hours will be fine.’ And she said, ‘we won’t be fine. You’ve got to take them out now.'”
True to form, Cavill once again ignored the cautionary words. However, fate had its way during the filming of The Witcher in the Canary Islands, as he encountered a series of unforeseen complications. As the renowned Man of Steel actor recounted, the relentless wind in the area carried volcanic rock dust, which managed to find its way behind his contact lenses, causing scratches to his delicate eyes.
“She said ‘take them out.’ And I said, ‘No, No, I’m fine. I’m fine. I’m fine. Just give me some things to dab my eyes before a scene will be good.’ She put her foot down and said, ‘No, I’m stopping shooting until you take them out.'”
