Best friends in real life, enemies in reel life, Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis starred together in Darren Aronofsky’s gripping film Black Swan. An intense tale focused on the challenging world of ballet dancers, it touches upon the themes of human psychology, mental illness, and at the same time passion, rivalry, and glory.

The film, released in 2010, captivated audiences, and both the lead actresses won much praise for their amazing on-screen chemistry. However, their chemistry was not surprising since both have been best friends for a long time. And it was Natalie Portman who suggested Mila Kunis play the role of her on-screen rival, Lily.

“It was really crazy, because Mila and I were very good friends. And when Darren asked me, ‘Who do you think could do this part? Who has sort of a similar height, coloring, physique?’ I was like, ‘Oh, Mila, Mila, Mila!'”

However, when the Ted actress bagged the role, Portman realized she had failed to think it all through.

“He met her and obviously flipped over her, and she’s super talented and does an amazing job in the movie… I didn’t really think through the fact that I was going to have to have s*x with her in the movie.”

Despite the awkwardness, the actresses did not let the scene destroy their friendship.

Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis have been best friends for a long time. So, naturally, it was awkward for them both to share an intimate scene in their widely acclaimed film Black Swan. Even though the experience was awkward or even uncomfortable, the Thor: Love and Thunder star felt there was also a sense of positivity to the scene.

“It was pretty awkward. I almost feel like it would be easier to do it with someone you didn’t know. But, having said that, it was great to have a friend there who, we could laugh and make jokes and get over it together.”

And after navigating through the awkwardness and uncomfortability in the short scene, both actresses delivered a stellar performance which made the film truly an unforgettable one.
