Jennifer Lawrence has reached heights that most would only dream of. Earning an Oscar for Silver Linings Playbook, and having multiple best actress nominations for movies like Winter’s Bone and American Hustle, the actress established herself as one of the most coveted personalities in the industry. Lawrence once opened up about how she angered her parents after giving up a lucrative offer from Disney.
Jennifer Lawrence’s Disney Decision Made Her Parents Furious
Jennifer Lawrence has played some of the strongest characters on-screen. The actress, who has remained in the limelight since her teen days, courtesy of The Big Engvall Show, didn’t always land on the same page with her parents. During an interview, Lawrence recalled that she was offered a Disney show, but she politely declined the offer, something that angered her parents. She said:
“When my parents picked me up they yelled at me so badly. They were spending a lot of money giving me the chance to do this – and I had the potential to be on a television show that would obviously pay for everything and I was like, ‘Nah’.”
Jennifer Lawrence was approached by Disney at the age of 14. Back then, The Hunger Games film series actress told a Disney executive, “I didn’t think I was very Disney and did not want a television show.” She politely expressed that everybody has a different avenue that they take and “I didn’t fall in love with those things.”
Well, Lawrence certainly was willing to compromise the Disney paycheck for the sake of her preferences. She also expressed that she fell in love with the “dramas and the grunge and the edgy and the dark.” Even at 14, Lawrence knew where her heart was, and look where it has taken her!
A Journey From Humble Sitcoms To Oscar-winning Blockbusters
Despite becoming the highest-grossing action heroine of all time with the $2.97 billion The Hunger Games franchise, Jennifer Lopez is rather remembered as one of the most humble actors. Even though the actress achieved stardom at just 14, Lawrence didn’t mind sticking to sitcoms.
It is only fair to say that had it been for a young Jennifer Lawrence, the little girl would have preferred to stick to television shows. She famously said in an interview:
“When I started acting, I was totally satisfied when I was on a sitcom because I had a steady paycheck. And I was like, ‘Maybe I can just find a way to be on sitcoms forever.’ I was totally satisfied and good. I never dreamed that I could have this kind of career.”
Fate had different plans for the star though. From becoming the second-youngest Best Actress Oscar nominee to winning the Academy Award for Best Actress for Silver Linings Playbook, the actress has truly taken a one-way ticket to the success land.
Even though Lawrence stumbled with her performances in Mother and a dulled run in the X-Men sequels, she came back strong with Causeway (2022). For fans, it was like a breath of fresh air to watch Lawrence play a real person once again. But again, Lawrence is humble enough to agree that as she quickly rose to fame, she did lose some touch with the artistry of action.
The X-Men series can be rented or purchased on iTunes.
