Under a span of 2-decades, fans have witnessed three different actors put on the cowl of Batman in live-action, but Christian Bale still remains the definitive version to the majority of fans. Considering Robert Pattinson’s story has just begun and Ben Affleck’s solo movie never come to fruition, for now, Bale remains the most experienced caped crusader.
Throughout the tenure of his iconic trilogy, which transcended what Superhero movies can be at the time, Nolan beautifully flushed out Batman. And when Ben Affleck was cast as the next actor to bring his own spin on the character in Zack Snyder’s BVS, the actor received one essential piece of advice from the veteran caped crusader.
Christian Bale’s advice to Ben Affleck before he headed into BVS
Ben Affleck‘s version of Batman is radically different from what fans were used to, which ditched several aspects of the character that made the character compelling. But despite the controversial writing for his character in BVS, Affleck doesn’t fail to deliver his best, as he succeeded in leaving a lasting impact on fans. However, even though his take on the caped crusader was drastically different than Christian Bale‘s Batman, he did receive one essential piece of advice that goes for all actors donning the cowl.
The Air star recalled before heading into BVS, that he came across Bale at a Halloween shop while shopping for his kid, and the Batman Begins star advised him that he should make sure they “put a zipper in that (Batman Suit) so I couldn’t take a piss for three movies”. It isn’t the only time Bale gave an insight into the discomfort of being in a Batman suit. Back in 2005, he said,
“I felt ridiculous and stupid. It didn’t fit. I just left like a rat prat. And then by the time it did fit, I was like I can’t do this because I’m claustrophobic. I’m hyperventilating and they cast the wrong person.”
But despite the shortcomings of the writing for his character, Ben Affleck did prove that he can pull off a great Batman with the proper material, which is once again proven in his small stint in The Flash.
Christian Bale defended Robert Pattinson’s Batman casting after the initial hate
Like his predecessors, Robert Pattison hasn’t failed to bring his spin on Batman, as he plays a more raw and brutal vigilante, still struggling to figure out how things should be done. But like those who came before, including Ben Affleck who was initially ridiculed for being cast as Batman as well, Pattinson also had to endure a lot of hate after he was initially announced as the next Batman.
However, Christian Bale didn’t hold back to share his support to Robert Pattinson, as he advised him to not be bothered by the outside chatters, as Bale claimed Pattinson is a wonderful star.
“Good for him, just make it his own don’t listen to the naysayers at all,” Bale said. “Think about it everybody protested when Heath was cast as the Joker, look were absolutely brilliant performance he gave. Don’t listen to those guys, do his own thing he’s a fascinating actor he’s a great choice.”
Like always, Christian Bale was right about both of his successors, Robert Pattinson and Ben Affleck. And thanks to Matt Reeves, fans are assured that the next installments in The Batman franchise might be the next big thing the overly-saturated genre needs.
