“I can’t say that it was that much fun”: George Clooney Protected and Took Care of Alicia Silverstone While Shooting the Biggest Flop of His Career ‘Batman and Robin’

"I can’t say that it was that much fun": George Clooney Protected and Took Care of Alicia Silverstone While Shooting the Biggest Flop of His Career 'Batman and Robin'

Most people frequently picture George Clooney in his more somber and lucrative performances when they think of him. However, there is one movie that seems to smear the actor’s stellar reputation just a little bit: Batman & Robin‘ from 1997.

The movie may have entirely damaged Clooney’s career if he had been a lesser star. Fortunately, the actor was by then on the rise and Batman was only registered as a blip on his acting radar. People mostly ignored Batman and Robin after watching him play characters like Danny Ocean in the Ocean’s Eleven trilogy. Or, the majority of people did.

Looking back on Batman and Robin, George Clooney has a lot of regrets. In fact, he advised his friend Ben Affleck to give the script to a friend when he was offered the role of Batman, which Affleck evidently did not do.

“I wasn’t good in it, it wasn’t a good film. What I learned from that failure was that I had to relearn how I was working. Now, I wasn’t just an actor getting a role, I was being held responsible for the film itself.”

After the film failed, Clooney quickly picked himself up and geared towards making better film choices, he said,

“After ‘Batman & Robin’ came out, and it was a big bomb — you learn from your failures; you don’t learn from successes. So the next three films I did were Three Kings, Out of Sight and O Brother, Where Art Thou? That was a very specific choice for me to find better projects,”

He is not the only one who feels that Batman and Robin was not worth it. Clooney’s co-actor Alicia Silverstone feels the same about the film. Her career took a backseat after the film even though it did not do some major harm at that time.

After Batman and Robin, he made the decision to pursue projects with stronger scripts. And George Clooney clarified that he didn’t really regret the movie because of the experience he had with it when Redditors questioned him about his regrets around the same time.

Silverstone also acknowledged that the experience had far more drawbacks than advantages. The character may have harmed her career. Even yet, there were some positive outcomes, one of which was her covert friendship with George Clooney.

Working with actors like George Clooney, according to Alicia Silverstone, was wonderful. It appears that Silverstone didn’t particularly enjoy the performance in the movie, in addition to finding the outfit uncomfortable.

“I can’t say that it was that much fun. I love George Clooney, and I had such a good experience with him. He was so sweet to me, and kind. Really protected me and took care. Lovely. And I loved – I LOVED – Michael Gough, the man who played Alfred. He was a dream, and he and I had such a good relationship. I care about him so much.”

She continued,

“You have to put the suit on. The suit is so uncomfortable. And I was young! I don’t know. I wonder how I would feel now? But at 18, putting that suit on and not knowing what the heck I was doing, I can’t say it was that fun. And it came at a time in my life when people were being very unkind.”

Silverstone went on to say that the spectators were really rude at the time and that the mood wasn’t the best. Even though Batman and Robin will go down as one of the worse films about Batman, the actors made some good friendships on the set of the film.
