Hollywood often holds a different sort of circus when it comes to the promotion of high-budget movies. And Jamie Foxx once became a part of that circus for his $135M budgeted movie and later felt awful about it. Recalling his 2005 movie Stealth, the actor got candid with Hollywood about how he repeatedly tricked his fans into believing that the movie was really good.
However, eventually, Jamie Foxx admitted feeling extremely disgusted by how he fooled his fans and audiences regarding Stealth. Thus, during the interview, the actor recalled being confronted by his fans and called out for misleading them. Hating himself for being dishonest during press tours, Foxx thereafter refrained from repeating the mistake ever again.
Jamie Foxx Fibbed About His $135M Movie To His Fans
Beginning his career by the end of the 80s, Jamie Foxx started as a comedian at open mic comedy nights. Thus, considering his start off, no one predicted Foxx would become a leading Hollywood star, with an Oscar, in the proceeding years. However, through struggle and dedication, the actor navigated his way into mainstream Hollywood.
But certainly, his acting career hasn’t always been stable, as Foxx once appeared in a $135M budgeted movie that turned out to be a box office disaster. However, it’s not just the acting or the movie that led Foxx into fans’ bad books.
Reflecting upon how he got involved in Hollywood’s circus of promotion, Jamie Foxx admitted to misleading his audience about Stealth. During an interview with Hollywood, the actor confessed,
“Sometimes you do a movie and you have to go promote it, so on Stealth I was like, ‘Yeah, this is the greatest.’ And people would see me after seeing the movie and say, ‘I can’t believe you lied to me like that.’”
The actor later admitted feeling awful and extremely guilty about his dishonesty
Jamie Foxx’s Stealth Turned Into A Box Office Flop
Jamie Foxx’s 2005 movie Stealth narrated the story of three military fighter pilots collaborating on a project to create a completely automated robotic stealth aircraft. Although the movie tried to focus on advanced scientific themes and entertain audiences, it was heavily criticized for the convoluted plot.
Nonetheless, Jamie Foxx had genuinely great things to say about the movie apart from his previous dishonesty regarding its brilliance. The actor discussed his work experience and mentioned having a fun time working with the director Rob Cohen, during an interview with Movieweb.
“It was exciting to work with Rob Cohen because he had so much knowledge of movies that were action-packed”
In the end, despite trying hard to turn his 2005 movie into a worthy film, Jamie Foxx failed at his attempts as Stealth turned into a box office disaster. The movie wasn’t exactly warmly received and was considered one of the worst movies of 2005 as per critics and box office numbers. Stealth was made with a $135M budget but ended up collecting merely $79M worldwide.
