Anthony Hopkins Believes That Acting Is Not Difficult
Anthony Hopkins held a unique perspective on the craft of acting, in a past revelation, the actor expressed his belief that acting was not a difficult endeavor.
With a career spanning decades and a collection of iconic roles, his statement carried weight and invited consideration.
In an interview, Hopkins shared his insights on acting techniques and reflected on his decades-long Hollywood career. He admitted that, as a younger actor, he used to engage in more research.
However, over time, he found himself not analyzing it too much, which could be a reason why he didn’t perceive the job as overly taxing. The Silence of the Lambs star in an interview with AARP stated, “For me, acting is not hard work.”
Hopkins discussed his acting process, he explained,
“I read a part until I know the text so well that I can be very relaxed. Some people like to do hundreds of takes. I belong to the Clint Eastwood school: Just get on with it.”
In the same interview, he also touched upon his approach to selecting scripts, emphasizing that if the writing was bad, he would decline the opportunity. However, when the writing was exceptional, he found that he didn’t have to do much beyond that, he shared,
“All I had to do was a slight German accent and learn Latin and Italian. And I looked at photos and thought, Maybe I could look like him.”
Furthermore, Hopkins candidly shared his views on the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Anthony Hopkins Sees His Work In The Marvel Cinematic Universe As Pointless Acting
Hopkins is one of the many well-known actors who have starred in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as he played the father of Thor and Loki in the Thor movie trilogy (MCU).
However, his experience within the MCU left a less-than-favorable impression. In a recent interview with The New Yorker, the Transformer: The Last Knight performer candidly expressed his feelings, stating,
“They put me in armor; they shoved a beard on me. Sit on the throne, and shout a bit. If you’re sitting in front of a green screen, it’s pointless acting it.”
Hopkins’ opinions also reflect those of other Hollywood legends, such as Martin Scorsese, who have criticized the superhero genre for its emphasis on mass production and lack of individual artistic expression.
Further, the MCU, according to the artist, has come to dominate Hollywood, seemingly swallowing the industry as a whole.
