THIS ARTICLE CONTAINS A MAJOR SPOILER FOR JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 4
Just like in the movie, John Wick 4 is defeating any competition at the box office. Fans loved seeing Keanu Reeves back in action and the fact that the fourth chapter is supposedly the end of the journey does not sit right with them. Even though it has merely been days since John Wick 4 has released, fans are already wondering if there will be a fifth movie or not. The hype is insane!
Well, director Chad Stahelski did say that he and Keanu Reeves are giving the studio a bit of a break with John Wick and don’t have any concrete plans for a return. However, it looks like the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair, Joe Drake, has reignited hope in the hearts of the fandom as he revealed they are not ready to say goodbye to Keanu Reeves with John Wick. He might return in one way or the other. Maybe even John Wick 5?

Is This the End of John Wick?
Keanu Reeves’ character, John Wick, the much-loved assassin, met his demise in the fourth chapter of the franchise. However, Joe Drake recently revealed to Deadline that the company is “not ready to say goodbye to Keanu with this franchise. It’s what alternative there will be.” Needless to say, Reeves has made a huge impact with the role of John Wick, so much so that Lionsgate is looking for ways they can keep the actor in the spotlight.
Drake stated, “There’s a lot of different things that we can do…I’ve seen this movie five times in the last week. I can see the way that the audience moves him.”
While there is obvious gloom over the ending of John Wick 4, fans can find solace in the fact that Reeves will be reprising the character in Ana de Armas’ The Ballerina, a John Wick spin-off. As for the release date of the spin-off, Drake has mentioned either the spring or the summer of 2024 stating that “the episodes are nearly finished.”
Drake stated that the success of films like Hunger Games and John Wick see is one of the main reasons why he gets up in the morning. The executive added, “We had a tiny movie within John Wick and a tiny movie in The Hunger Games. I believe there’s another one.” Do you think that Reeves shouldn’t say goodbye to the John Wick universe just yet?
The Possibility of Keanu Reeves’ Return for John Wick 5
Reeves once talked to Total Film about the possibility of a fifth John Wick film. He stated that it all depends on how the fourth movie is received by the audience. And looking at the global $137.5 million opening weekend, John Wick 4 couldn’t have been received better!
“You have to see how to audience responds to what we did. The only reason we have had a chance to make these movies is that people have liked what we have done. So I think we have to wait and see how the audience responds to it. Hopefully, they’ll like it.”
We liked it alright! Similarly, director Chad Stahelski also stated that the studios had full intentions of continuing the franchise. However, in a later interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Stahelski revealed that he wants to give the franchise a rest.
“In our minds, Keanu and I are done for the moment. We’re going to give John Wick a rest. I’m sure the studio has a plan. I f everyone loves it and it goes kooky, then we’ll take a quiet minute. Wicks always for some weird reason gets the latest release date in Japan…If it’s the same this time, we’ll do a Japanese tour…Keanu and I will take the long trip to Tokyo, we’ll sit in the Imperial Hotel Scotch Bar and go, ‘ What do you think?’ We’ll have a couple 20-year-old whiskies and write some ideas on napkins. If those ideas stick, maybe we’ll make a movie.”
Well, September is a few months away. Till then, we can only hope Stahelski and Reeves change their minds! After all, the world isn’t ready to say goodbye to John Wick just yet.
