Hollywood actor Anson Mount recently confessed to his mistake of wrongly criticizing Shazam star Zachary Levi on social media. The actor, who is known for playing Black Bolt in the superhero franchise, took to social media to apologize publicly.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023) and John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023) were released earlier this year. Levi’s comments regarding the movies were taken out of context in an edited video, to which Mount had responded negatively. Realizing the error of his ways, the latter then publicly apologized to Levi.
Anson Mount’s criticism of Shazam star Zachary Levi
Shazam! Fury of the Gods hasn’t been doing particularly well at the box office. After the surprise success of the prequel Shazam! (2019), much was expected of the second movie in the franchise. But its opening week numbers reflect how much of a damp squib it turned out to be, earning a mere $30.5 million domestically. Zachary Levi, who stars as the titular superhero Shazam, defended his movie and said that it was a better movie to take your family to than something like Keanu Reeves-starrer John Wick: Chapter 4, what with the latter’s gory action scenes.
In an edited video circulating online, it was made to appear that Levi was praising his own movie and calling it a better movie than the action thriller. Incidentally, the John Wick movie earned $138 million on its opening weekend. Anson Mount, popular in the superhero industry as Black Bolt, posted a picture of himself as Black Bolt, shushing Levi, in response to the edited video.
Anson Mount apologizes publicly for slamming Zachary Levi
Realizing his mistake thereon, Mount took to Twitter to issue a public apology to Levi and call out the error of his ways. He wrote,
“An apology: So about a week ago I kinda drug my friend @ZacharyLevi for a post that had been taken out of context. First of all, even if it hadn’t been taken out of context, that’s just not something someone should do to a friend and colleague…”
Mount went on to say how gracious Levi was in accepting Mount’s apology in person earlier.
“…well, it started to sink in what I had done and I apologized. Of course, Zack being THE most considerate and gracious dude was beyond patient and understanding and really took the time to relate his side of things. I’m forever grateful and I thank him for that…” continued the actor.
As the actor went on to clarify, he felt like a public apology was something he still needed to make, anyway, and so he went ahead and did just that.

“But I did think it important to make the apology public as well. And thank you all for putting up with me too. It truly amazes me sometimes how big of an a*s I can be. Ah, well. Humility never tastes good but it sure as hell is nourishing. Thanks again, Zach,” finished Mount.
Mount’s heartfelt apology to Levi won quite a few fans over on the microblogging site, and his humility in recognizing his mistake was lauded.
