Hugh Grant Believed Monogamous Relationships Are Boring

Grant had previously been in several high-profile relationships, but The Undoing star never took the leap into marriage, until he met the love of his life, Anna Eberstein. In an interview, Hugh Grant revealed his ideology on marriage and monogamous relationships, which he marked as unromantic. The Florence Foster Jenkins star stated that those who follow monogamous relationships are obliged by force or the other. Grant added that having an outsider in the relationship may even act as a way to strengthen the relationship.

“If you ask me the question, ‘Do I think human beings are meant to be in 40-year-long monogamous, faithful relationships?’ No, no. Whoever said they were? Only the Bible or something. No one ever said that was a good idea. I always admire the French and the Italians who are very devoted to their marriages. They take them extremely seriously, but it is understood that there might be other visitors at 5 o’clock in the afternoon. You just never boast about it. They never say anything, but that’s what keeps marriages together.”

The Four Weddings and a Funeral star did appreciate the good side of monogamous relationships but ended his statement by saying that being in such relationships can be unromantic as you are cutting yourself off from possibilities.

“I can see the lovely aspect if you marry exactly the right person – your best friend and it’s cozy and it’s lovely. But, people make so many mistakes. I think there’s something unromantic about marriage. You’re closing yourself off.”
