When Kate Winslet was working on her HBO series Mare of Easttown, things took a turn for her. In a scene where she is getting intimate with her co-star, Guy Peace, the director stated that the belly fat visible can be removed from the sequence altogether. The actress dared them not to do that and made sure it stayed in the show.
“She’s a fully functioning, flawed woman with a body and a face that moves in a way that is synonymous with her age and her life and where she comes.”
She further focused on how her character is someone who needs to be relatable. At her age, what she is portraying is relatable, with flaws and ups and downs all combined. This made it integral for them to not change her scene and let her be confident in her own body.
Kate Winslet Was Asked To Lose Weight Multiple Times
Kate Winslet has always been a great actress. Whether it was early on in her career or now when she is respected profusely. She was always someone who was not hidden from the ugly side of Hollywood. Growing up within the industry, she heard various comments about her weight. As a young actress, they would hit her hard, however, now she knows how to stand up for herself when questioned about her physical features.
“People are subject to scrutiny that is more than a young, vulnerable person can cope with. But in the film industry, it is really changing. When I was younger my agent would get calls saying, ‘How’s her weight?’ I kid you not. So it’s heartwarming that this has started to change.”
Winslet opened up about how things were when she started off as an actress and even focused on her school days when she would always be told that she would only be cast as a fat person and nothing more. Her agent would often get calls about whether or not the actress lost some weight so that she can be cast. However, that did not stop Winslet and she knew her weight could not and should not define her.
