Controversy is the twin sister of fame and the dark underbelly of stardom is just waiting to sink its claws into actors – one wrong move, and it’s game over for them.
So many celebrities and stars have witnessed this downside of fame, the infamous cancel culture reducing them to mere blips in the grand scheme of things. While some seem to deserve the public’s wrath, many have proved to be faultless, their words twisted and bent to fit an ugly media narrative that in reality turned out to be perfectly innocuous. And that’s exactly what seems to have happened with Hollywood’s action legend, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Arnold Schwarzenegger Addresses His ‘Heaven is a Fantasy’ Controversy
Arnold Schwarzenegger recently caught fire for his seemingly controversial comments in a new magazine interview with his Twins co-star and longtime friend, Danny DeVito. When the two actors brushed upon the subject of death and the prospect of an afterlife, the True Lies star recalled something he once told Howard Stern about his beliefs on the matter.
“You’re 6 feet under [after you die]. Anyone that tells you something else is a f**king liar,” Schwarzenegger, 75, had said at the time. Essentially, however, the action icon admitted that he wasn’t exactly “an expert” in “spiritual stuff” so he didn’t really know what happened to a person’s soul after they died; all he knew was that the body eventually ends up decaying.
He then went on to say how heaven, as a concept sounded the most idyllic thing ever, but the fact of the matter was that people don’t get to see each other after they pass away. What he meant was about the corporeal aspect of it, how you can’t physically live on after death, even though you may continue to exist as a spirit. But what the former governor of California made headlines for was in stark contrast to that.
“You should be ashamed of yourselves,” Schwarzenegger wrote on Twitter after retweeting a post by one of the media outlets that painted him as the bad guy. “How much money do you make misleading people for retweets? Haven’t you gotten enough wrong to stop?”
Are Fans Team Terminator on This One?
When Schwarzenegger’s supposedly insensitive and problematic statements wreaked havoc on the internet, fans bashed him for claiming that heaven only existed in people’s fantasies, ultimately implying that no such thing as heaven or hell prevailed. Since his comments hurt the religious sentiments of many, there was a lot of ruckus about the same.
But as it turns out, his words were distorted to fit the tagline of a scandalous tabloid story, and The Terminator star has now unveiled the truth behind the same. Thanks to that, fans are no longer out for blood and are even empathizing with the retired professional bodybuilder for how tabloids made him out to be the villain.
Others, however, aren’t exactly ready to forgive and forget.
At any rate, his discussion with DeVito has certainly left his fanbase divided but Schwarzenegger’s recent address of the issue will hopefully tamp things down.
His new documentary titled Arnold is now on Netflix.
