Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet worked together in their epic sci-fi film, Dune which only brought further success in their acting career. The duo is already prominent in the industry and began their acting during their teenage years and continued to evolve their careers ever since then. After the immense success of their first film, they are ready to steal the fans’ hearts with the second part of Frank Herbert’s novel adaptation.

While there is still time for the duo to reappear together on-screen, the Euphoria actress revealed some behind the scene details of the upcoming film. She also talked about her on-screen romance with Chalamet’s character.

The Spider-Man: Homecoming actress, Zendaya in a new interview with Vanity Fair opened up about how the romance sequence with her Dune 2 co-star, Timothée Chalamet was “foreign” to both of them.

The latter plays the role of Paul Atreides, ducal heir of House Atreides meanwhile the actress portrayed the role of Chani who first appeared in Paul’s visions. Given their introduction in the first film, their relationship will further be explored in the upcoming film. However, the former shared about the difficulty the actors faced in navigating their character’s love story.

“It was funny trying to figure out in this futuristic space talk, like, how do they flirt?”

She thought it was “funny because all of us were stumped. I think it’s just as foreign to us as it probably is to the characters.”

However, she added that the duo eventually accepted their relationship which was “awkward and uncomfortable.” She further expressed that she was evaluating whether her character, Chani got awkward or what exactly she felt about her love story.

In the interview, the Shake It Up actress further talked about the difficulty of filming romantic sequences in Abu Dhabi and Jordan due to the limited time.

Filming scenes were more of “a ticking timer” as the team had to capture the shots within one hour each day when sunset was at its peak which is often regarded as the golden hour.

She shared,

“You kind of feel like, OK, we got here, but we have maybe an hour to get this. So we revisited a bit every day, and over a few days, that gives us a few hours.” 

She added that the team used to come up with new ideas after revisiting the place and analyzing more of what they got. While it was difficult, film director, Denis Villeneuve gave a shoutout to the duo for making their on-screen love work.

Dune: Part Two will be released on November 3, 2023.
