Many have been wondering if the Targaryens, especially Daenerys from Game of Thrones, are really immune to fire. This has been one of the most common errors that fans seem to believe, alongside Jon Snow’s immunity to aging after he was resurrected and the Night King causing winter.

Daenerys is the most popular character from the House Targaryen in the Game of Thrones series. While there were other Targaryen members, such as the Mad King, Viserys, Rhaegar, and Aegon the Conqueror, no one was recognized by the viewers as much as Daenerys. It is no surprise that many unexplainable things happened in her life, but most of them can be attributed to her lineage.

Game of Thrones season one saw Daenerys walk into Khal Drogo’s funeral pyre while holding dragon eggs, and she came out of it unharmed. This started speculations from fans that she is indeed immune to fire, and that all Targaryens are fireproof. House of the Dragon will soon prove that Daenerys, and the rest of the Targaryens, are actually not resistant to fire.

What To Expect From The Targaryens In House Of The Dragon

The House Targaryen is notable for having close relationships with dragons, and so their lineage has been known as having “blood of the dragon”. This does not necessarily mean that dragon blood literally flows in their veins. The phrase refers to the House Targaryen’s origins in Valyria where their ancestors had close ties with these beastly creatures. It symbolizes Targaryen’s ability to ride and tame dragons.

In addition, not only the Targaryens have this ability, as House of the Dragon will also present another Old Valyrian family, the Velaryons, who closely resemble their features and skills.

Author George R.R. Martin has also confirmed that the Targaryens are not flame-resistant and that it would be unlikely for them to survive such events. The reason why Daenerys was left unharmed is that her dragons’ birth was a magical occurrence, and it prevented her from being burnt.
