George RR Martin house of the dragons

House of the Dragon‘s shaping up to be a show worthy of the Iron Throne. There’s a lot to talk about the TV series- it’s an enthralling political drama about a family line that has been torn apart by a succession crisis, which in itself is posing a huge threat to the longevity of House Targaryen.

House Of The Dragon Is A Source Of Joy For George R.R Martin

There’s always that one TV show which always makes you happy whenever you watch it. It doesn’t have to be a cute romantic comedy, it can also be a shock factor-reliant series(with a good plot of course) that makes you proud to be a part of its audience.

In the case of the House of the Dragon, George R.R Martin is part of the millions of viewers who have given a big hug to the show for being oh so brilliant. Although it may seem like he’s biased here since he literally wrote the source material for the Emma D’Arcy-led series, we can assure you that there’s a positive objective opinion about the series.

The 74-year-old author of the A Song of Ice and Fire novel series, who is currently working on the sixth installment in the series, The Winds of Winter,  recently updated his Not A Blog website where he shares his thoughts about the latest TV adaptation of his work-

“HOUSE OF THE DRAGON has helped brighten my Sundays as well.   I mean, I cannot really review the show, that would be crazy, I am hardly objective… but I do want to commend Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik and the cast and crew for the work they’ve done.”

The work that has been done is definitely impressive. However, we’re crossing our fingers because we do not want to see House of the Dragon go down the same route that ultimately led to a disappointing final season of Game of Thrones.

George R.R Martin Addresses House Of The Dragon Vs Rings Of Power Rivalry

It’s no surprise that House of the Dragon and Rings of Power have been taking the TV series industry by storm, and their releases just being 1 and a half weeks apart has propped up the trend and fascination of medieval fantasy TV shows.

This of course comes with both fanbases waging war against each other over which show is better. To be honest, it has now turned toxic, and HotD creator George R.R. Martin is pretty aware of this rivalry. In a recent blog post on his Not A Blog, he shares his opinion on the whole fiasco-

“There’s a website called THE WRAP that has a couple cool interviews with Ryan Condal, including one where he spoke about our supposed rivalry with RINGS OF POWER… which mostly exists in the media.”

“Ryan says pretty much the same thing I said in that interview with THE INDEPENDENT a few months back.   Nothing would please him more than to see both shows succeed.    Me too.   I am a fantasy fan, and I want more fantasy on television, and nothing would accomplish that more than a couple of big hits.”

There you go lads, put your swords down. If the creator of HotD himself can vouch for both TV shows, why can’t we come together and enjoy both pieces of work for how well-made they are without comparing them?
