Hogwarts Legacy was released on 10 February 2023. The game was seen as one of the most anticipated games of the previous year. After its release, the Harry Potter and gaming fans were overjoyed. After conquering the cinematic world, they thought it was time to conquer the gaming world. Fans believed it would be a “Game of the Year” contender.
Hogwarts Legacy was released early in 2023. Thinking it to be the best at such an early stage meant only one thing: disappointment for its fans. 2023 saw two more games – Baldur’s Gate 3 and Starfield, which pretty much stole the hype from every other game. The former was released a month back, while Starfield just came out.
Hogwarts Legacy Is Out Of The Game Of The Year Race
Every video game developer works hard so that their creation wins the “Game of the Year” title. Some have their wish fulfilled, while others wait for a second chance. By the looks of it, Hogwarts Legacy falls under the second category. Even though during its initial stage, the fans thought it to be the rightful owner of the title. It was an open-world RPG from the famous Harry Potter wizarding world and had a lot of backing. Keeping aside the criticisms, the game was destined to be great.
But that happiness did not last long. Fans saw Hogwarts Legacy slowly losing ground to Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. It was all over with Baldur’s Gate 3 and Starfield. Starfield has already taken the top spot in Steam’s Top Seller page, with Baldur’s Gate 3 in second. CS: GO, released 11 years ago, still bears the number three spot. Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon comes in fourth. Hogwarts Legacy is nowhere to be seen.

Fans Turn Against Hogwarts Legacy
After playing the latest releases, fans think the game lacked several components. The open-world feature is not quite up to the mark. There is no romance involved in the game. Their frustration grew when they found how good Starfield and Baldur’s Gate 3 were compared to Hogwarts Legacy.
One of the fans said,
“I liked exploring Hogwarts when I played this game and I even platinumed the game because I am a massive completionist. But seeing the features in new RPGs, Hogwarts Legacy makes me sad. In Starfield, you can choose different backstories and get different buffs, quests and items. Imagine you choose Hufflepuff and you get an edge in your dealings with magical creatures. Or imagine you choose Slytherin and you get a dark arts buff. And of course in Baldur’s Gate your choices matter, endings change and you can lock yourself out of some quests. Plus there’s so much interactability.”
Another disappointed fan said,
“I think for their first big AAA game, they did a pretty great job, but of course there is room for improvement. I feel like a sequel could see a massive jump in terms of systems and depth now that they have established the world and its design.”
Now, with a few open-world RPG games to compare the Wizarding World game with, they are realizing it was not as good as the initial hype made it out to be.

Hogwarts Legacy 2 In Production?
Fans believe that whatever is done is done. It cannot be changed. Their wish of seeing their favorite game win the 2023 “Game of the Year” is unfulfilled. But it does not mean that they will never see it happen. Reports have suggested that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is indeed in development. If the developers can rectify their past mistakes, they can be considered candidates for the title.
The video game started out well, but a controversy surrounding J.K. Rowling harmed the sales of the game. All these things are past, and a new day brings new hope. Only time will tell whether Hogwarts Legacy 2 will uplift the face of the wizarding world or not.
