The cast of Christopher Nolan’s recently released, Oppenheimer (including Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, and Matt Damon) is equally as epic as the plot of the film. The first biopic directed by the 52-year-old filmmaker, Oppenheimer, centers on J. Robert Oppenheimer, a key figure in the development of the atomic bomb.
Nolan’s Oppenheimer follows the infamous Manhattan Project, which included the creation of the first nuclear weapons, and is based on the biography, American Prometheus by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin. The plot takes place in the 1930s and 1940s. The cast of Oppenheimer features a number of well-known actors from Nolan’s previous film productions.
The lead role is played by Cillian Murphy, who also appeared in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, and Dunkirk. He filled J. Robert Oppenheimer’s shoes at the height of the Manhattan Project.
The director also has a lot of talented actors working with him for the first time outside of his regular team. And this includes Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, and Florence Pugh, who are almost as astounding as the story they are bringing to the screen.
Matt Damon Abandoned Oppenheimer Co-star After He Isolated Himself?
Robert Oppenheimer is portrayed by Cillian Murphy in the epic biographical thriller film. Since he has previously appeared in Christopher Nolan’s films, it is not surprising that he is a member of this cast as well. While Florence Pugh portrayed Oppenheimer’s mistress, Jean Tatlock, Emily Blunt played Oppenheimer’s wife, Kitty. Evidently, both women play important roles.
Blunt compared filming the movie in New Mexico with the large cast to being at “summer camp” in an interview with PEOPLE.
“We were all in the same hotel in the middle of the New Mexican desert.”
She further recalled:
“We only had each other. Me and Matt were roommates and we were like, ‘Let’s go to have dinner.’”
Murphy was regrettably unable to participate in the fun often because of the demanding role in Nolan’s movie as Blunt stated:
“The sheer volume of what he [Cillian Murphy] had to take on and shoulder is so monumental. Of course he didn’t want to come and have dinner with us.”
Matt Damon, who has played Leslie Groves, agreed, adding:
“He [Cillian Murphy] couldn’t. His brain was just too full.”
Well, even Murphy clarified his actions, saying:
“You know that when you have those big roles, that responsibility, you feel it’s kind of overwhelming.”
Emily Blunt Attracted by This Actor’s ‘Ocean Eyes’ on Oppenheimer Set
The A-list cast of Christopher Nolan’s A-bomb epic, Oppenheimer agreed that Irish actor, Cillian Murphy gave the performance of his life. He delivered a commendable performance as the American physicist, who led the country’s efforts to develop an atomic bomb during World War II.
On the other hand, they also admitted that when acting alongside him, his deep blue eyes can be distracting. In a group interview alongside Emily Blunt and Cillian Murphy for PEOPLE, the 52-year-old, Matt Damon admitted that working on scenes with the lead actor is “a real problem”.
“Sometimes you find yourself just swimming in his eyes.”
In the meantime, Blunt, 40, also joked:
“It’s like that ‘Ocean Eyes’ song by Billie Eilish. We just hum it all day.”
And then 47-year-old, Murphy also exclaimed in response to what his co-stars had said.
“They’re not even that blue!”
Well, for the unversed, Oppenheimer has already garnered positive reviews, with praise for its cast, screenplay, and visuals in particular.
Based on the 2005 biography, American Prometheus, Oppenheimer is currently playing in theaters.
