Actor Tobey Maguire, most popular for his work as Spider-Man in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy was married to jewelry maker and entrepreneur Jennifer Meyer for nine years. After having been married for almost a decade and having two children together, the couple called it quits in 2016.
According to some sources, the two had a difference of opinion when it came to lifestyles and interests. While Jennifer Meyer is a social butterfly, Tobey Maguire on the other hand likes the comfort of staying in. Even though the two have separated their ways, they have kept their children, Ruby Sweetheart Maguire and Otis Tobias Maguire, as their first priority, coming together without grudges to raise their children.
Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Meyer are on Good Terms
Despite being together for over a decade and married for nine years, Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Meyer announced their separation in 2016. They stated that their decision to separate as a couple would not affect how they raise their children and plan to continue doing so with love, respect, and friendship.
“After much soul searching and consideration we have made the decision to separate as a couple. As devoted parents, our first priority remains raising our children together with enduring love, respect and friendship.”
According to People’s sources, the Achilles’ Heel in their marriage was the difference in their lifestyles. While Meyer liked going out with her girlfriends, Maguire preferred staying in. The source also added that while they weren’t happy for a long time they have been great parents to Otis and Ruby.
“They’ve been living separate lives for a while. They have completely different interests and haven’t seemed to be connecting. He’s extremely private and prefers to stay home, and she’s very social and has tons of girlfriends. They haven’t been happy together for a long time, but they are great parents and they love their children.”
Following their divorce, just a year later Meyer told The Hollywood Reporter that she didn’t know what she would do without Maguire and that she “lucked out.”
“I don’t know what I would do without him — Tobey’s my best friend. I lucked out in the biggest of ways. He’s still very sweet to me.”
It looks like the two had a very smooth separation and have since stayed good friends, navigating through the ups and downs of co-parenting.
Jennifer Meyer Sees Tobey Maguire as a Brother
Six years after their paths diverged, Meyer appeared on The World’s First Podcast where she talked about her divorce with Maguire, calling it the “most beautiful experience” of her life. The entrepreneur stated that there is nothing in the world she wouldn’t do for the Babylon actor and added that he is like her brother.
“I can’t even explain. I would do literally anything in the world for Tobey. He is my brother and we have the most beautiful family.”
She also talked about co-parenting their daughter and son and how difficult it was at first. The two eventually got the hang of it and it became much simpler to deal with things. Meyer continued that they are able to get through this stating that the universe has got their backs.
Maguire came in a relationship with model Tatiana Dieteman after divorce with Meyer. However, the pair broke up after three years of dating. Meyer, too, was in a relationship with sports agent Rich Paul who then went on to date Adele.
