Zachary Levi’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods was released on 17 March 2023. The makers of the movie made sure to include Gal Gadot as they knew her appearance will ignite excitement amongst the viewers. But when Gadot and Levi were filming for the movie, there were a few hurdles the team of Shazam! Fury of the Gods had to face because of Gadot’s busy schedule.
The 38-year-old actress had many projects in her hand that made it difficult for her to shoot her part in the movie without some difficulty.
Zachary Levi said they had to use a body double to shoot Gal Gadot’s part
Zachary Levi, the lead actor playing the character of Shazam in the movie Shazam! Fury of the Gods talked about how difficult it was for the cast and crew to shoot with Gal Gadot because of her demanding work schedule. Levi explained that when the makers and cast were filming the Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the Red Notice actress was involved in another project. She was very busy filming for that movie and it was getting difficult to shoot her part for the Shazam! sequel.
In an interview, Levi talked about how they had to find another alternative to shoot Gadot’s part in the movie. Levi said in his statement,
“She was busy working. She was shooting something else entirely, so we had a body double on our end. Then we were able to shoot her stuff on another side. I think they did a great job seamlessly cutting all that together.”
He further added,
“And I love that Billy is so in love with her. He’s so infatuated, and he’s so nervous! That was fun to tap into. It felt like going back to being my 17-year-old self.”
Before including Wonder Woman’s cameo in the film, the makers were thinking about bringing in Superman in Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
David F. Sandberg explains why he thought a cameo of Wonder Woman might not happen
In an interview, the director of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, David F. Sandberg said that he had to think about a lot of things before including Gadot’s cameo in the film. He explained that first, Superman was supposed to arrive and take control in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, but it was difficult for Henry Cavill to shoot at that moment, so he ran his head around Gadot’s Wonder Woman. Sandberg said in his statement,
“So for this one, Wonder Woman was in the script and I was like, It’s not really gonna happen. I mean, it makes sense because of the mythology and the Greek gods and everything, but it’s like, don’t believe it’s gonna happen. And then, when we were shooting that scene, or the majority of it, it was the same thing, like. Oh, you’re gonna have to shoot with a stand-in and then we’ll pick her pieces up because she’s not gonna make it here to Atlanta at this time.”
Sandberg said he also had a plan B ready in case things went wrong. But things worked out well, as at the end of the movie, Wonder Woman makes a surprise cameo.
