Finally picking up the mantle of Captain America in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson will be at the forefront in Captain America: New World Order. This will be the first Captain America film to not feature Chris Evans as the titular character.

Additionally starring Danny Ramirez as Falcon and Shira Haas as Sabra, the film is expected to global with the plot. According to the promotional campaign from the makers of the film, Captain America will be faced with problems more complicated than ever before.
The legacy of Chris Evans
Becoming one of the original Avengers, Chris Evans portrayed the tenacious Steve Rogers in MCU. We saw him join the Avengers in later films and fight against multiple supervillains including Loki, Ultron, Red Skull, and Helmut Zemo.
But the biggest threat the character faced was Thanos, who was the main villain in two Avengers movies and ended with the retirement of Steve Rogers as Captain America. In the last few minutes of Endgame, we saw the character give his shield to Sam Wilson, signaling a new era of superheroes.
Will we see Steve Rogers in Secret Wars?
A question that has been posed many times is whether Chris Evans will return as Steve Rogers. Despite his confirmed departure, rumors continue to spread about the actor’s return, now in Secret Wars. Anthony Mackie commented on the discussion in an interview with E! News, he said:
“Chris is so far gone from Marvel… Like, Marvel is not even in his radius. He’s so far gone. He’s enjoying life. He’s like an old retired dude.”
Avengers: Secret Wars is expected to be a big crossover event with many MCU characters joining in. Originally in the Secret Wars comics, it was Steve Rogers as Captain America, but movies can obviously take creative liberties.
Considering the emotional departure of Chris Evans from the MCU, it would a slap in the face to many fans to see him return in Avengers: Secret Wars. As MCU continues to move forward, it would be interesting to watch new stories rather than hashing out the history of its founders.
Captain America: New World Order will be hitting theatres on May 3 of 2024.
