Which version of The Office you have seen? Or if both the UK and US versions, then which one you loved most? The series has been made twice for television, once for audiences in the UK, and then was adapted again for American audiences. The topic has been debated for years without coming to a clear conclusion. However, this has been put to rest by Ricky Gervais, co-creator of the UK version, who also starred in it.
Gervais gave his clear opinions on the two shows during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Gervais was asked by Fallon which version of The Office was better, a topic long-discussed among the fans of the two. Also, Gervais gave his opinion on Steve Carell leaving the show before its completion.
Ricky Gervais Confirmed Which Version of The Office is Better
Fans had an unanswered query for Ricky Gervais, and they finally got their chance to know his answer on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, when Gervais was asked by Fallon which version of The Office was better
“I thought the British Office was the best, but my account assures me it’s the American,” Gervais said.
Gervais responded that it was the US version that made him “F**king rich.”
The UK version of The Office ran from July 2001 to December 2003 while the US version ran from March 2005 to May 2013.
Steve Carell Left The Office, Ricky Gervais Responded
For seven seasons, Steve Carell played Michael Scott, one of the lead characters in the popular series. Many consider his role as one of the greatest and funniest TV characters of all time. For his portrayal, he received a total of six Emmy nominations and one Golden Globe award. Then he made the decision to leave The Office.
In an interview with EW, he stated,
“I think [season] 7 will be my last year. I want to fulfill my contract; I think it’s a good time to move on.” When asked further about his potential of returning or changing his mind, he responded, “No. I just want to spend more time with my family.”
After Carell made up his mind to leave the series, at a Golden Globes Award ceremony in 2011, Ricky Gervais, the creator of The Office jokingly said,
“He’s now leaving that show and killing a cash cow for both of us. Please welcome … the ungrateful Steve Carell.”
However, Gervais, admitted that he never tried to stop Steve Carell from leaving The Office, saying that he thinks Carell was doing the right thing.
