Quentin Tarantino is a self-proclaimed Michelle Yeoh stan since day one. The two go a long way back, and their friendship has inspired them to do great things including teaching each other how to walk all over again both literally and figuratively. The Oscar-winning actress was severely injured while performing a stunt in a very stunt-heavy movie bearing the name indicative of what she was going into, The Stunt Woman. And Tarantino was undoubtedly the man that lifted her spirits as well as her from the dark times and made her realize she is not yet done.
Although she is one of the finest actors ever, it is weird to think Michelle Yeoh never got the opportunity to star in his movies despite being best of friends and thus, when she confronted the director for the same, his witty answer left her longing even more.
Quentin Tarantino brought Michelle Yeoh back to her feet
The legendary director, Quentin Tarantino and the actress Michelle Yeoh go way back than one can imagine. The two have been friends since day one, and have been very fond of each other’s work. Thus, when the actress got severely injured which made her contemplate retiring from the job she loves, Tarantino was the one that pushed her into not doing it. In a cover interview with Town and Country, the actress revealed, she was severely injured while performing a stunt in a 1996 movie, The Stunt Woman. During this, the director was also down in Hong Kong for a Pulp Fiction screening and visited the actress in hospital. She revealed,
“I thought I broke my back. I thought I was paralyzed,”
But Tarantino worked his usual charm and canceled all the doubts that plagued Yeoh’s mind. The qualities of the director are undeniable and made the actress realize Tarantino was right. She said,
“I must say, Quentin, he’s persistent,—He is who he is today because he’s full of passion and love, so he wore me down. Suddenly we became animated. So then I thought, ‘Maybe I’m not ready to give up on this.’”
The director himself is a very big fan of the actress and revealed to the same media house once,
“I was just a huge, huge fan of hers—There was always a twinkle in her eye.”
Despite being such a fan of the actress, the director never cast her in any of his movies. Fans desperately hope she finds her way into one soon.
Quentin Tarantino never cast Michelle Yeoh in his film despite being a fan
Michelle Yeoh was the inspiration behind Uma Thurman’s character in the Tarantino film Kill Bill. Despite being cited as an inspiration the actress is still confused why she herself wasn’t offered the role. Starring in a Quentin Tarantino film is an actor’s dream, and when one gets to know their performance was an inspiration to a legendary piece of cinema, it serves as the highest form of compliment. But for Yeoh, the information filled her with a lot of questions.
When she decided to confront the man himself, the director further jokingly hurt the actress’ ego. She said,
“I asked Quentin the same question,—He’s very smart. He said, ‘Who would believe that Uma Thurman could kick your ass?’”
The duo still continues to inspire and challenge each other. Yeoh and Tarantino still push their artistic boundaries, leaving an indelible mark on the world of cinema. Fans cannot wait to witness the duo come together in the future.
