Quentin Tarantino, a man who studied films instead of studying in a film school has cemented a strong portfolio with a unique filmmaking style. The use of stylized violence and references to popular culture are a few of his signature filmmaking techniques that their fans immediately recognize. While his strong commitment and love for writing and filming brought him to the top, one might be unaware of his personal relationships, especially with his parents.
The actor did not have a good relationship with his biological father, Tony Tarantino whom he absolutely loathed. He shared that he never knew his father nor did he want to know about it. What made their relationship crumble like that?
Quentin Tarantino Spilled The Beans About His Biological Father
The 60-year-old filmmaker, Quentin Tarantino talked about his biological father, Tony Tarantino stating that he was unknown to him.
Stating to The UK Telegraph, he shared,
“No. Well, I never knew my father. That’s the thing. I never knew him.”
He continued to share that his father wanted to be an actor who got recognition only because the former became an influential personality across the world with his filmmaking asset.
“He wanted to be an actor, now he’s an actor only because of my last name. But he was never part of my life. I didn’t know him. I’ve never met him.”
Not just that, but his father never did any initiative to connect with the director and only pushed himself into his life after he gained stardom. He would rather not choose his last name than be associated with him in any way.
Quentin Tarantino Doesn’t Want to be Associated With His Biological Father
While many think that using his last name might have any link with his father, he also addressed the same by sharing that he used his last name to sound cool.
“When I took the name Tarantino around 18 or 19, it was simply because it sounded cool.”
He continued,
“It was Italian. Quentin Tarantino sounded like a cool name. It had nothing to do with him. It had nothing to do with the family.”
He also shared,
“If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn’t use the name Tarantino. If I had it to do all over again, I would use my middle name as my last name. I would be Quentin Jerome.”
Whether he would change his pen name or not, fans would still like and respect the filmmaker for his work. Though his relationship with his father is indeed complex given their encounter which was almost none. He once opened up about how he tried to contact the Pulp Fiction director after he got famous but the director was never interested in a reunion.
