The infamous defamation trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard took the world by storm last year. After Johnny Depp was awarded $10.35 Million, it was in the news for a long time that Heard will appeal the court’s verdict. This went on for almost six months since the judgment was passed in June.
However, in December, the Aquaman actress took to her Instagram to announce the end of the whole drama. In a heartfelt post, the American actress wrote that she will not be appealing the court’s verdict. She came to this decision as she reportedly did not have the resources to go through another trial.
The 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival started earlier this week and Johnny Depp was seen at the French festival. The British tabloid newspaper, The Sun, issued an article where it labeled the American actor as a ‘wife-beater‘ and his fans were having none of it.
The Sun called Johnny Depp a ‘wife-beater‘ in the headlines of an article
Ever since the infamous trial ended largely in his favor, Johnny Depp was working on the French movie, Jeanne du Barry with dedication. Depp played the role of French King Louis XV in the French movie. After the actor appeared at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this week, The Sun published an article where the Secret Window actor was referred to as the ‘wife-beater.‘
However, Depp’s fans were not having any of it and some of them even urged the actor to sue the newspaper.
Amber Heard fans are absolutely delighted about the controversial article
After Johnny Depp’s fans shared the newspaper article on Twitter to ask the actor to sue the publication, Amber Heard‘s fans also replied to their tweets and called Depp a “legally deemed wife beater“.
For the unversed, Depp once tried to sue The Sun back in 2020 over an article that called him a ‘wife-beater.’ However, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor lost the trial.
Another user mentioned that Depp cannot try to sue the publication even if he wants to.
One user defended Depp and decided to troll the American actress and her fans.
It is highly unlikely that Depp would try to sue the publication once again as he already has all the support from the fans in the world.
The French movie, Jeanne du Barry is about the French King Louis XV’s favorite royal mistress, who was also a courtesan. The movie was released on 16th May 2023 at the Cannes Film Festival and Depp allegedly got a seven-minute standing ovation for his role.
