Zendaya and Tom Holland have allegedly been together for more than five years. Although their chemistry is undeniable, the couple still prefers to keep their romance under wraps and hardly address their relationship. While the Euphoria star already had experience dealing with fame and popularity, the Uncharted star claims that things were not very easy for him after his big break in Captain America: Civil War.
And he was very grateful to have someone like Zendaya, who was there to help him deal with things. However, both of them still denied any sort of romantic links among them and continued referring to each other as friends.
Zendaya Denied Relationship Rumors With Tom Holland
Zendaya opened up about her relationship with her co-star, Tom Holland, during an interview with Variety. When asked if she and her co-star are involved romantically, she simply denied the claim, saying, “We are friends.” She said that they were just friends and that they had only been together for the past few months for the promotion of their film.
“He’s a great dude. He’s literally one of my best friends. This past how many months we’ve had to do press tours together. There’s very few people that will understand what that’s like at 20 years old.”
Zendaya wasn’t the only one to refer to Holland as friends. The Cherry star also called her a friend during several of his interviews. Although the pair reportedly started as friends when they starred together in the 2016 film Spider-Man: Homecoming, their relationship seems to have developed romantically.
However, the two still prefer to keep their personal lives away from the limelight and have even spoken openly about how fame has taken over their privacy. The Spider-Man stars’ relationship was confirmed when they were spotted kissing in a car.
Zendaya Finds Her First Meeting With Tom Holland Cool
During her interview, Zendaya also talked about how she was cast in Spider-Man. She shared that once she found out the audition was for Spider-Man, she wanted to make sure she got the role. And in order to do that, the Dune star shared that she didn’t wear any makeup to audition for her character.
She also talked about meeting Tom Holland for the first time during her “chemistry read” with the new Peter Parker. While the Civil War actor thinks that their first meeting was “super awkward,” Zendaya finds it cool. She said,
“He says when we first met it was super awkward because he went for a handshake, and I went for a hug. But I don’t remember that. I thought it was cool.”
However, there was still one thing she was concerned about. The Far From Home star shared that she worried things would be weird between them because Holland was “so much shorter than [her].” She explained, “I was like, Damn it! It’s going to be weird because I’m super tall.”
She was also concerned that she might not get the role due to her being biracial. However, she is glad that the makers preferred the best performances over how the characters looked. And she was offered the role of Michelle Jones-Watson, aka MJ, for MCU’s Spider-Man films.
