‘He’s a big part of the DCU’: James Gunn Teases Robert Pattinson Won’t be the Only Batman in DCU, Hints Younger Dark Knight Replacing Ben Affleck

'He’s a big part of the DCU': James Gunn Teases Robert Pattinson Won't be the Only Batman in DCU, Hints Younger Dark Knight Replacing Ben Affleck

DC Studios has been riling fans up with all kinds of rumors surfacing over the internet and new developments being carried out within the franchise. And only James Gunn knows what exactly it is that he’s concocting for the studio’s future.

The co-CEOs of the superhero franchise very clearly stated that they planned on reinventing and rebuilding an entirely new DC Universe by consolidating various new projects to bring together the whole thing. It is due to the same idea that a new, much younger Clark Kent will be introduced to the DCU in the wake of Henry Cavill’s departure as Superman. So it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to assume a similar fate for Batman.

But while James Gunn debunked the rumors of Robert Pattinson replacing Ben Affleck’s Batman, he also hinted that the Caped Crusader is going to be one of the most valuable aspects of DCU’s future.

If there’s one thing that James Gunn deserves solid credit for, it’s active communication and interaction with his fans and audience.

In light of the plethora of changes that seem to be taking place in DC Studios, a fan asked Gunn about Batman’s fate in the DCU and whether or not the Dark Knight will only be reserved for Matt Reeves‘ projects. Gunn in response said that Batman is indeed going to play an imperative part in the new DCU that he and Safran are so strenuously working towards.

This is certainly interesting given how the Peacemaker director just recently debunked rumors about Robert Pattinson replacing Ben Affleck‘s Batman in the DCU, assuring fans that no such thing would be happening. But while Affleck will be playing the superhero in Andrés Muschietti’s 2023 film titled The Flash, there has been a lot of chatter about how the Dawn of Justice star might just put his foot down as Batman after this film. And in that case, the vacancy would indefinitely have to be filled by someone else.

Batman Will be Playing An Important Role in the DCU

Ever since Reeves’ The Batman (2022) came out with Pattinson leading the film as Bruce Wayne, there has been unending speculation about how the Twilight star could take over Affleck’s Batman in the foreseeable future. However, with Gunn clarifying things on that front, the possibility seems less likely. But now that the filmmaker has specifically addressed Batman’s importance in DCU’s future, nothing can be said for sure.

We already know that Gunn is planning on bringing a younger version of Superman to the franchise for a new project with Henry Cavill bidding farewell to the Man of Steel cape for good. Keeping that in mind, a younger Batman would inherently work much better with Gunn’s plans for the DCU, thereby coordinating and connecting the superhero universe more intricately with little to no room for any sort of plot holes.

Let’s see what the co-CEO of DC Studios has in store for the future.
