Here's Why Oscar Isaac's Spider-Man 2099 is Inferior to Miles Morales in Across the Spider-Verse

Spider-Man 2099 raised a huge buzz among the fans as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has recently hit the theaters and with a massive bang. The Spider-Verse project acted as the sequel to Into the Spider-Verse and provided us with an action animation extravaganza along with a set of memorable new characters. Miguel O’Hara aka Spider-Man 2099 voiced by Oscar Issac proves to be an amazing addition to the franchise.

But after watching the very first showdown between our beloved Miles Morales and Miguel O’Hara, it can be concluded that the former still has the upper hand. Although Spider-Man 2099 acts as a menacing foe to Miles, these advantages can be instrumental in defeating him in the Spider-Verse threequel.

As the Moon Knight fame Oscar Issac returns as another fellow Marvel character in the Sony animated feature, we got a very new version of Spider-Man. Miguel O’Hara’s web-crawler follows a gritty and serious tonality compared to the other members of the Spider-Society. Further in the movie, Spider-Man 2099 was shown as a formidable foe to Miles when he tries to return to his dimension to prevent the canonical event of his father’s death.

Oscar Issac’s Spider-Man possesses a different set of skills than the other Spider-Men. In the very first place, he lacks the classic “spider-sense” possessed by the other web crawlers including Miles which warn them of threats. This can prove to be a vital drawback for the superhero in Beyond the Spider-Verse. But it doesn’t completely make the foe another normal villain as Spider-Man 2099 has enhanced vision and hearing abilities.

The enhanced vision enables him to watch clearly in dark spaces and detect motion that is almost impossible to be detected by normal people. His hearing ability is also sharper than any other mere mortal. But on the other hand, we have seen in Across the Spider-Verse, how Miles Morales outsmarted Spider-Man 2099 and presented quite a tough competition to him.

So with some powerful set of tricks along with a spider-sense, Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales can get the edge on Miguel O’Hara in his show-off with 2099 again in the latest Spider-Verse movie. Although Miles Morales also possesses a camo ability unlike Miguel, it is practically of very less use to someone with enhanced vision and auditory senses. It can’t be denied that 2099 will once again present very tough competition, but Morales’ Spider-Man has more advantages in this showoff.

How Beyond the Spider-Verse is going to be bigger?

We have already seen how Across the Spider-Verse enlarges the multiversal event that started in Into the Spider-Verse to an excellently splendid level. Further, the end of the latest Spider-Man movie promises another major war coming for our Spider-Men.

Although Miles Morales was successful in outsmarting Spider-Man 2099, things went South and he returned to the wrong universe. This mishap occurred as the spider which bit Miles wasn’t from his universe and thus the device sent him to Earth-42 as per his spider DNA. This led him to land in a Spider-Man-less universe. The absence of the friendly neighborhood superhero had even more grim effects on the universe as it had the variant of Miles Morales as the infamous Prowler with his uncle Aaron Davis as his sidekick.

To make things worse, Miles Morales also had to rush and return to his dimension faster to protect his father from The Spot which was the canon event he was trying to prevent all along. But things don’t end here as Morales is not the only good guy here.

As Miles was struggling to figure out the events in Earth-42 in his other version’s captivity, Gwen Stacy finds major details about the canon events in her universe. Thereby, she assembles a team of her own comprising all the characters from the first movie along with Pavitr Prabhakar and Hobie as her new allies in the mission to fight from Miles’ side in this war against Spider-Man 2099 and the other members of the Spider-Society.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is running in the theaters while Beyond the Spider-Verse is slated for March 29, 2024.
