For many DC fans, Henry Cavill is DC. Without him as Superman, there’s not much incentive for many to watch those films. However, with James Gunn and Peter Safran now forming their own DCU, there’s no space for Cavill. Instead, a new actor will soon step into the red boots of DC’s premiere hero.

But apparently, that’s not the end of Cavill’s tenure as the Kryptonian hero. Previous reports stated that his Superman cameo in Black Adam was the last anyone would see of him. But that’s not the case anymore. As per reports, the star will reprise his role as Superman again in The Flash. But how?

Why Did Henry Cavill Leave The DCU?

After Black Adam was released, Henry Cavill’s cameo appearance in the post-credits scene of the film got DC fans amped up about the star’s return. Cavill even announced his comeback through an Instagram post. Soon after, James Gunn and Peter Safran were hired as the co-CEO of DC Studios under WBD. Many fans thought that this would mean a collaboration between Gunn and Cavill on Man of Steel 2. But that didn’t happen.

Instead, in late 2022, James Gunn shocked everyone. He announced that the actor who had publically confirmed his DC return barely a month back was no longer going to be a part of his new DCU. What followed was an Instagram update from the former Superman actor wishing the new DC team the best. In the months following Cavill’s departure, plenty of reports came out about what actually went down behind the scenes for a mess like this to happen publically.

The Hollywood Reporter stated that Cavill was a “pawn” in Dwayne Johnson’s plan to take over DC. Also, the site stated that The Witcher star wasn’t didn’t have a contract to guarantee future appearances. Instead, what he had was a verbal agreement that obviously didn’t hold any power, especially amid corporate reshuffling that led to the creation of DC Studios with Gunn and Safran at the helm.

To make matters worse, it was previously rumored that Cavill’s cameo from The Flash film was deleted as well. This disheartened his fans who were hoping to see the actor in the iconic blue and red suit one last time. However, new reports state that he’s indeed in the film.

Is Henry Cavill Now A Part Of The Flash Cast?

Film scooper KC Walsh tweeted the latest status of Henry Cavill’s Superman cameo in the upcoming The Flash film. As per the insider, the actor is indeed in the film, but he hasn’t shot any new footage for it recently. Instead, repurposed footage from Justice League is supposedly going to be used.

“Cavill does appear in the Speedforce but it’s just repurposed ‘JL’ footage, not the big surprise”

KC Walsh was also asked if WBD was using the cameo scene that Henry Cavill was rumored to have filmed under the previous Warner Bros. regime. He replied that that scene wasn’t going to be used. The scooper said, “That scene is gone, now it’s just old JL footage.” Here’s the tweet:

Umberto Gonzalez of The Wrap reported a while back that the Enola Holmes actor was paid $250,000 each for his Black Adam and The Flash cameos. It’s rumored that originally his appearance in the Ezra Miller-led film was going to be as Superman who would have met Barry Allen in the Speedforce. But that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. As of now, it remains to be seen in what form we get to see Cavill as Superman one last time.

The Flash is releasing on 16 June 2023.
