Henry Cavill Was Never Fired From The DCU

With bold statements, James Gunn, in his statement to Gizmodo stated that there was never a deal about any other Superman movie following the cameo in Black Adam. He further berated the people for making assumptions based purely on a cameo that Henry Cavill agreed to do.

“It’s important to say that Henry Cavill was not fired. Henry was just not hired to be Superman in ‘Superman [:Legacy].’ There was never a deal there for another movie. We didn’t’ fire Henry. Henry was never cast. He was in a cameo, and that was the end of his story. A lot of people made assumptions which weren’t true. But for me, it’s about who do I want to cast as Superman and who do the filmmakers want to cast.”

But it isn’t just the role of Superman that seems to be affected by the decision. There are also alleged reports of Ben Affleck leaving the role of Batman from the DCU spread throughout the Internet as neither the actor nor Gunn seem to talk about any future projects regarding Affleck.

Following the lineup reveal of the first chapter of the DCU, Gunn seemed to be wanting to release The Brave and The Bold. The upcoming movie will reportedly deal with an older version of Batman alongside characters like Robin, Batgirl, and Blue Beetle.

Although a Batman movie is confirmed in the works, Ben Affleck has had no comments regarding his role in the upcoming DCU projects. Neither Affleck nor James Gunn has clarified whether the actor will be donning the Batman suit once again or does James Gunn plan to reboot the entire thing right from the beginning. Ben Affleck could possibly be seen in his last role as Batman when The Flash releases in 2023.

With the older generation of the DCEU scattered and making way for the new DCU, The Flash is slated for a release date of 16th June 2023.
