James Bond is an iconic character that continued to engage fans with his courteous demeanor, excellent brainstorming, enthralling fighting skills, and not to forget, an iconic catchphrase that instantly reminds us of the strong individual he is known as. Though several actors continued his legacy in their unique style, Daniel Craig’s portrayal of 007 in No Time To Die was the last when fans enjoyed the adventure of the famous agent.
While the seat for the next James Bond is still empty, there are many contenders whom fans see fit for the role. While Henry Cavill continues to be among the top contenders, his chances are now getting thin as a new entry has paved the way for the blank seat.
Henry Cavill’s Chances to Book The Role as James Bond are Now in Trouble!
The 40-year-old actor, Henry Cavill is among the top contenders for the next James Bond role. According to William Hill, The Witcher star is in the second spot with odds of 5-2 however, his position is reportedly in much trouble. English actor, Paapa Essiedu is gaining much fans’ attention and has suddenly popped up on the third spot at 3-1 alongside James Norton to replace Daniel Craig as the 007.
For the unversed, Essiedu is a rising English actor who gained major prominence for his role in the I May Destroy You miniseries. He is confirmed to be in the upcoming Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror series which will likely be back with season 6 this June.
Meanwhile, Aaron Taylor-Johnson remains in the top spot with odds of 11-8. While this year marks the 70th anniversary of James Bond, many are speculating that the next 007 star would likely be announced this year. Though this still remains a mystery, Cavill is not new to this role.
Henry Cavill Has Already Competed With Daniel Craig for The 007 Role
Cavill was in direct competition with Craig for the role of 007 in the 2006’s Casino Royale however he eventually lost to the latter as he was just a freshman meanwhile the Knives Out star was already a well-known personality at the time.
On his appearance at the Happy Sad Confused podcast, he shared,
“They told me I was close. They told me it was ultimately down to, and this is what I’ve been told, it was just down to me and Daniel [Craig], and I was the younger option. They obviously went with Daniel and I think it was an amazing choice to go with Daniel.”
Though the actor was 23 years old at the time when he auditioned for the spy role, he had no qualms over not getting it. In an interview with Men’s Health, he shared that it was a “great, fun role to play” while auditioning for 007.
He even acknowledged Craig’s potential of doing “an incredible job of being Bond.” Though he was unable to grab the role at the time, he still has another option as the new James Bond is yet to be declared.
