While The Witcher season 3 is getting aired on Netflix in the summer of 2023, the fantasy series has already been renewed for a fourth season. However, in a completely unanticipated series of events, season 4 of the show is going to be moving forward without Henry Cavill.
The British actor announced his departure from the series via an Instagram post wherein he not only bid his farewell to it, but also made it known that his character, Geralt of Rivia that he played in the first three seasons, would be taken upon by Liam Hemsworth from the fourth season onwards.
Although it is indeed a rather despairing piece of news, the actor’s fans now seem to be convinced that his exit from the show is equivalent to him being fully invested in his return to the DCEU as Superman instead.
What does Henry Cavill’s exit from The Witcher mean for Superman?
After playing the formidable monster-hunter in the first three seasons of The Witcher, Henry Cavill will be leaving the Netflix series with Liam Hemsworth as the new Geralt of Rivia from season 4 onwards.
As he announced his leave from the fantasy and drama series on his Instagram, Cavill wrote a heartfelt caption about the same, claiming that although his journey as Geralt of Rivia had been filled with amazing adventures, his time as the protagonist was over and Hemsworth will be taking up “the mantle of the White Wolf” in his place.
This new development was definitely a bolt from the blue for fans, but the news comes just a week after Cavill reclaimed his role as DC’s Superman. And now that the Mission: Impossible – Fallout actor has resigned as Geralt of Rivia, people believe he is going to be fully focused on DC projects involving Superman, especially Man of Steel 2.
Even besides a Man of Steel sequel, The Tudors star is already lined up to star in Guy Ritchie’s new World War II spy movie called The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. But with a little more time on his hands now that he won’t be working in a television show anymore, Cavill could very well speed up the process of Man of Steel 2, which is what fans are hoping as well.
Fans believe Henry Cavill will be fully devoted to Superman now
Just earlier this week, reports claimed that Warner Bros. was actively in the search of writers to kick off Man of Steel 2. And with Cavill’s news about dropping out from The Witcher, the belief that the actor is planning to be completely focused on putting the cape back on has been cemented amongst fans.

People are confused whether be upset about the star leaving the show or if they should express their excitement for what is to come next in the wake of his departure. Twitter is especially filled to the brim with such tweets as fans reacts to what seems to be a plot twist.
While DC fans are no short of overjoyed given it seems like a clear win for them that Cavill will be focusing more on his superhero character, The Witcher fans are absolutely crushed to watch him go, claiming that it was too heavy a price to pay for him to reprise his Superman role. A pyrrhic victory, perhaps.
Hopefully Cavill’s upcoming projects, especially that of a Man of Steel sequel, would make it up for his sudden leave from the show. Meanwhile, The Witcher: Blood Origin, a four-part prequel series to the show is set to release on December 25, 2022.
The first two seasons of The Witcher are available on Netflix.
