Henry Cavill earlier announced the unfortunate news of him no longer returning as Superman in the DC Universe. This news came as a surprise for the fans as he had been reinstated as the character only recently with his cameo in Black Adam. Both he and James Gunn confirmed that his run as Superman has ended because the DCU required a younger version of the character.
Gunn confirmed a lot as to what is slated for DC Films’ upcoming future, however, in this future, Henry Cavill was not a part of what is to come. The actor also broke the news with sadness in his tone. Although, even after so much, there could still be hope to see him return as an older version of the character in a future project.
Henry Cavill Could Still Return As Superman Someday In The Future
There had recently been confirmation regarding James Gunn himself penning the script of the upcoming Superman movie and it would not be an origin story. However, Cavill is too old of a Superman to fall under the vision of Gunn and Safran’s idea of what the Justice League could become.
There could be a possibility that the actor could return somehow, considering that another train of rumors states Gunn’s project to be in fact, the Kingdom Come arc. The CEO of DC Films did claim that there could always be future projects with him and what is better than to have an arc revolving around an older Superman?
Kingdom Come definitely seems to be on the list of projects that would soon be undertaken by the DCU and explored further within the formulated plan. Amongst the many rumors, one which seems to be rising more is around Henry Cavill and where he stands with the franchise.
Henry Cavill Has Been Through A Thick Journey With The DCU
Henry Cavill first became Superman back in 2013 with Man of Steel and has since then been going off and on with the character. He was last officially seen as the character back in Zack Snyder’s Justice League which ended his arc as the hero abruptly.
After a long wait, he came back as the scarlet-caped hero for a short appearance in Black Adam. Both he and DC then announced his revival as Superman, which did not end well, as now, the official announcement of his departure has been released.
We can only hope to see him return to the folds of DCU someday in the future.
