Henry Cavill’s departure from The Witcher as the Geralt of Rivia was not very well received despite him immediately being replaced by Liam Hemsworth. Although there has been no hate for the actor specifically, fans have not been fond of the idea of seeing someone else as their loved character. Now that Cavill is no longer the titular character nor is he Superman, his fans have been supporting him as and when the opportunity presents itself.
The cast members working with the actor onset also have a lot of good things to say about him. Lizzie Annis admires the actor and what he has done for the series as well as the story surrounding it. His contribution to the show will always be a big part of what it is now.
Henry Cavill’s Cast Members Appreciate His Contribution To The Show
Liam Hemsworth will be taking over after Henry Cavill post the third season. It will mark Cavill’s final run as the ritual character and perhaps even the last big bunch of viewership. This, however, will not be because of Hemsworth. Rather, it is said to be due to the story of the series drifting far away from the source material and the actual storyline.
Although, actors like Lizzie Annis have expressed their gratitude towards Cavill and how he established the series with a massive fanbase and even an integral story. She focused on how the actor formed the baseline for the show and his faith and love for the character had brought a lot of charisma and adoration to the series. It was his dedication and respect towards the books and the games that brought out the best of his capabilities whenever he was on set. According to her, Cavill set the foundation for the series to grow even more and become more of what it is meant to be.
The Witcher‘s Future Looks Foggy
The success that The Witcher’s first and second seasons saw gave rise to two spin-offs as well as an upcoming third and fourth season. However, this merriment was only short-lived. After Cavill announced his departure, the series already started receiving a lot of backlash. The news of Geralt being replaced regardless of whether the actor is just as capable of taking the role made the fans furious.
The Witcher: Blood Origin was an utter disappointment after being the only faith that the audience had in the franchise. The original voice actor of Geralt in the games has also expressed his dislike of how the series is shifting from the source material. To put salt in an open wound, the author of the original books, Andrzej Sapkowski also has mixed reviews about the series, deeming it to be neither good nor bad.
The third season of The Witcher will air on Netflix in the Summer of 2023.
