Henry Cavill is one of the most well-recognized and adored actors in Hollywood, having made a name for himself through many massively successful projects, including his work as Superman in the DC Universe, as Sherlock Holmes in Enola Holmes, in Mission: Impossible – Fallout, as well as The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Outside of this, however, the star is perhaps most well-known for his appearance in the hit Netflix television series, The Witcher.
After starring in the series for three seasons as one of the protagonists, Geralt of Rivia, Cavill left the series and is now being replaced by The Hunger Games actor, Liam Hemsworth. Naturally, this decision made the majority of the audience incredibly angry, with many refusing to watch the next season of the series. Despite this, however, the executive producer of the show, Tomek Baginski has stated that this change in casting is canon to the source material of the series.
Everything We Know About The Witcher May Not Be True
The Witcher is based on two separate source materials, the first is the games, and the other is the novels that the games are based on, written by Andrzej Sapkowski. During an interview, Tomek Baginski explained an arch in the final book of the series, Lady of the Lake, that has been used to explain the change in appearance of Geralt’s character, from Henry Cavill to Liam Hemsworth. The executive producer mentioned that many book readers have forgotten the narrative framework of the fifth and final book.
“Many book readers forget what Andrzej Sapkowski did in the fifth volume of the saga. For me, this is one of the most important things in the whole story. I’m not talking about specific events, but the narrative framework that was introduced in this book. Suddenly, at the beginning of the book, we learn that everything we’ve read so far might not have been true. And this cannot be compared with, for example, the currently popular concept of the multiverse, where out of nowhere there are many different realities.“
He went on to explain, stating that in this book, the readers very suddenly learn that what they have read up to this point may not have been a hundred percent true, with there being many different types of stories that exist in one world.
How Is The Change In Geralt’s Appearance From Henry Cavill To Liam Hemsworth Going To Be Canon?
What the producer meant by this was that by the end of this novel, a narrative is put forth that the stories of the characters that we have been following till now, will on to turn into folklore years after they are gone, over time being changed and having many different versions according to who you hear them from.
Tomek Baginski explained that the change in Geralt’s appearance in The Witcher is simply a part of this. According to legends told by some, the character of The Witcher looks like Henry Cavill, whereas according to some stories, he looks like Liam Hemsworth.
