So the trailer has dropped and we’ve got a look at Helldivers 2 Co-op and Combat gameplay. And I must say, we are suitably impressed!
If you haven’t had a chance to check this out yet, then fear not. Just click on the trailer below and watch it for yourself.
Helldivers 2 Co-op and Combat: Details of the game
If you’ve not played the previous title then here’s a quick round up of what to expect. The Helldivers take on the role of galactic peacekeepers who must for fight for freedom across the galaxy against the alien scourge, protecting their home planet and spreading the message of Democracy.
Operating as a third-person shooter, you and your squad will step into the boots of the Helldiver. You and up to four friends will utilise some of the most awesome firepower in the galaxy to protect your home, Super Earth, and liberate all hostiles who threaten your way of life. Extreme prejudice engaged!
One of the most exciting parts of the game will be collaborating with your squad. As you’ll need to organise loadouts which compliment each other, assess mission objectives and move as a tactical unit. Only through this will you be able to achieve your goals.
Helldivers 2 Co-op and Combat: What the Developers had to say
For returning players of Helldivers, they will be familiar with the stratagems system. The powerful tools which you can summon through a series of button combinations and this time round, there’s more variety than ever. From your ship in orbit, you can summon down orbital bombardments, machine guns and gatling turrets. To name but a few.
Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt had the following to say when asked about strategems;
“My favourite strategem in Helldivers 2 is the gatling sentry. A killing machine. Unleash it’s devastating firepower into a swarm of enemies, is truly a wondrous sight with this new third person perspective.”
But aside from the stratagems, players will still have plenty of choice from their primary weapons. Rifles, shotguns and plasma weapons and more can be personally tailored for your and your squad to help spread that message of democracy across the galaxy!
It’s pretty much guaranteed that you are going to die in the Helldivers universe, so it’s not going to be as frustrating as other Co-op games. When a Helldiver dies, another Helldiver can be called down using a reinforcement, they can then collect all the discarded weaponry and jump straight back into the action.
Arrowhead Game Director Mikael Erikkson had this to say about the death system;
“Dying in this game is fun. Sometimes you’ll find yourself blowing up more than just the enemy and your friends’ limbs might come flying past your screen. That’s okay, though. Each time a Helldiver is reinforced, that’s a new citizen finally fulfilling the Super Earth dream that they’ve fantasized about from early childhood.”
