According to the latest report, the movie had set to premiere at the 2023 Venice Film Festival, but following the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, the project will not make it to the grand event.

Zendaya’s New Sports Drama Withdrawn For This Reason

As per reports, the much-awaited sports drama starring Zendaya was supposed to premiere at this year’s festival, but the film’s promotion got hindered following the controversial SAG-AFTRA strike. According to Variety, actors striking with SAG raising their voices for fair pay and better working conditions cannot promote their movies on social media or attend any promotional activities for their films amid the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Therefore Zendaya and her co-stars Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist, will not make it to the festival. The outlet noted that now the release date of their film has been pushed back to 2024. She is one such performer who never shied away from playing challenging and complex roles. The film director Luca Guadagnino once gushed about her cinematic skills, saying, 

“She’s wonderful. I mean, wow. We edited the movie, and we almost actually don’t use any of her double. She’s so good.”

He further talked about the actress and her co-star’s roles they playing in the titular film,

“I think those three characters in that movie are beautifully complex and really f—d up people that I love very much. And a sports film, why not? It’s hyperkinetic, and I do films, so it’s great.”

In Challengers, Zendaya plays Tashi Duncan, a tennis player-turned-coach, and her co-stars Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist play Patrick and Art Donaldson, respectively.
