Director Quentin Tarantino seems to be nearing the finish line in his goal of making only 10 great movies, as he has claimed that his upcoming film, The Movie Critic, will be his last feature film. Just like his Hollywood career, his retirement plans have also been a topic of conversation among people. The Pulp Fiction director has shared that he wants to retire on his own terms and would only work on ten films by the age of 60.
And Tarantino once again reflected on his retirement plans during his recent interview with Deadline. He claimed that it is the perfect time for him to retire and go out. However, people have shared their suspicion about Tarantino’s claims and believe that he would not be able to stay retired for long.
Quentin Tarantino on His Retirement Plans From Filmography
Quentin Tarantino has been working on his upcoming film, The Movie Critic. While there are not many details available about the project, the film is reportedly set in the 1970s and follows a female lead. The director has claimed that The Movie Critic will be his last flick, and after this, he will not work on any other motion pictures.
He once again confirmed his plans during his recent interview with Deadline, saying that The Movie Critic will be his last film. “Yes. Motion picture, yes,” he said. When asked if he is planning to retire from direction, he said, “Well, I am ending the filmography.”
He further shared that he could still work on a TV show, short film, or a play, but he would mostly be working as a writer. “But I’ll probably just be more of a writer,” he clarified. The Kill Bill director said that it’s “just time to go out” as he prefers going out while he is still at the top.
Tarantino said that films released on streaming platforms would cause “diminishing returns” and he doesn’t like working with them. “And I mean, now is a good time because I mean, what even is a motion picture anyway, anymore?” he said, claiming that movies are supposed to release in theatres.
Fans Believe Quentin Tarantino Will Make a Comeback
As Quentin Tarantino confirmed that he would retire from making films after The Movie Critic, fans took to Twitter to share their opinion on his decision. Many fans are glad that he is keeping the options open for TV shows and other mediums, so they can still enjoy his work. However, others seem certain that he would “un-retire” and soon make his comeback.
They also named several projects that they have been hoping Tarantino would work on, including Kill Bill Vol. 3. And they are sure that if he wishes to make another film, he would surely return to filmography with his amazing work. One fan said, “No way a creative like him will retire now.” Others said that they are still waiting for a Kill Bill threequel.
The Movie Critic is scheduled to release in 2024.
