Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is often regarded as one of the best entries in the Harry Potter saga. And one of the reasons behind its success was the chemistry between Daniel Radcliffe’s Harry Potter and Gary Oldman’s Sirius Black, who is a Godfather to Potter.
In Tom Felton’s memoir, Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard, the actor provided an insight into the world of Harry Potter and its actors. And Tom Felton, who is popular for portraying the character of Draco Malfoy in the franchise, described the special bond between Daniel Radcliffe and Gary Oldman.
Tom Felton was jealous of Daniel Radcliffe’s bond with Gary Oldman
Tom Felton revealed that after Gary Oldman marked his entrance into the Harry Potter franchise, he grew quite close with Radcliffe and went on to become an inspiration for him. Tom Felton also admitted that the whole crew, including him, was quite jealous of Radcliffe’s bond with one of the greatest actors of our time, and it’s quite understandable considering that everyone wants to be on the good side of Oldman. Felton’s memoir states,
“I had the sense that Gary became something of an inspiration for Daniel, helping him to navigate the tricky path of growing up in the spotlight as well as hone his acting skills, I think some of us, myself included, were a bit jealous of that bond, We could see that in part thanks to Gary’s influence, Dan was really starting to learn the craft better than any of us”
But despite a little jealousy, Tom Felton went on to express his respect for The Dark Knight actor and commended his brilliance in the role of Sirius Black in the Harry Potter franchise.
Daniel Redcliffe was devasted after Gary Oldman left the Harry potter franchise
Gary Oldman has always been a huge inspiration for Daniel Radcliffe, and the actor hasn’t shied away from acknowledging the Darkest Hour actor on several occasions. And during an interview with Buzzfeed, Radcliffe shared that he was devastated after hearing the news of Gary Oldman’s departure from the Harry Potter franchise, as he wasn’t aware of Sirius Black’s death. He stated,
“At the time, I didn’t know if I’d be working with Gary Oldman again, and that was very sad, and I adored Gary, and working with him was an incredibly formative experience in my life. The character’s death just comes so out of the blue as well. That was a real shocker.”
In 2018, the duo of Oldman and Radcliffe reunited following the 20th anniversary of the iconic franchise. And even though it has been over a decade since the Harry Potter franchise concluded with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, the franchise and the original cast are still adored by the fans to this date.
