When we talk about love stories that the world of cinema has brought to life, the first film that comes to mind is none other than James Cameron’s masterpiece Titanic. And more iconic than the film are the stars that made the story come to life, which happens to be Hollywood elite Leonardo DiCaprio and his co-star and friend Kate Winslet.
Giving us one of the most outstanding performances of their careers and one of the best in cinema history, they have solidified their names as bona fide Hollywood legends. But when it came to the auditions at the time, the actress remembers an instance where she was almost thrown off her grove and set to fail by a mystery actor.
How Kate Winslet Was Being Set Up To Fail By Jeremy Sisto
Most famous for playing the role of Rose DeWitt Bukater in one of the most commercially and critically successful films in the world, Kate Winslet‘s performance in Titanic was nothing short of exemplary, something that forever placed her at the top of the industry among the elites along with her male co-star Leonardo DiCaprio. But when she looks back at it, she is also able to remember the hardships that she had to face, especially during the time of her auditions, where she remembers how Jeremy Sisto’s arrogance was setting her up for failure.

In a past interview with Josh Horowitz, the Divergent star recalled the auditions for the role of Jack Dawson where she was also trying out her on-screen chemistry with the potential candidates. She recalls the actor, who could’ve been the FBI star at that time who was gunning for the male lead. Winslet, although failed to remember exactly who he was, said he could’ve been him, just being arrogant, trying to assert the work that he was putting into the auditions, which imbalanced the actress’ trains of thought, making it harder for her to focus on her upcoming performance. She said:
“He, whoever it was, very much wanted to let me know that he had been there doing this auditioning thing the whole of the day before, and absolutely threw out a couple of names of people who he had been auditioning with in camera. That he was completely trying to f*** me up. And I was like, ‘mmhmm, yeah, mmhm.’”
But thankfully, the director made the right choice to not cast him, and with the help of Winslet, he managed to rope in DiCaprio for the role, and the rest is history.

Why Is Titanic Considered A Masterpiece?
From the vision of prolific filmmaker James Cameron, Titanic was a different approach from the familiar sci-fi flicks that he was popular for making, which itself was an exciting thing for the audience to witness. But when the film hit cinemas, the audience was taken aback by the result of the director’s outstanding execution.
The story may have been a simple one, yet the director was able to narrate it in such a manner that the impact lasted for decades with the people who witnessed the film. Coupled with perfect cinematography for this narrative, the film was bound for greatness from the get-go.
