He also went to audition for the lead role of DiCaprio’s breakout role, but the result is something we all know. The publicist reported that Bale was rejected due to DiCaprio’s co-star, Kate Winslet, who is an English actor.

“Christian too had gone up for the part of Jack Dawson in Titanic but was told that James Cameron didn’t want two British lead actors playing the two leads who were both supposed to be American.”

Given that the director reportedly wanted at least one of the lead stars to be American, the MCU star was out of the game, while the Inception star eventually landed the role. However, it was also his alleged rival that brought him to fame.

The 49-year-old actor had to suffer for a little longer before success knocked at his door. He auditioned to get the lead role in American Psycho. For the unversed, this role was initially given to DiCaprio, who dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. Bale was eventually hired and acknowledged DiCaprio’s effort of passing on the role that opened new doors in his career.

Do you know how grateful I am to get any damn thing? I mean, I can’t do what he does,” he shared. “And he does it magnificently. But I would suspect that almost everybody of similar age to him in Hollywood owes their careers to him passing on whatever project it is.”

As per Cheung, after he got the gig, he was fired, as The Aviator actor returned to the project. He was the first choice for the project so to think that they got him back was a big deal. Meanwhile, Bale continued to prepare for his role despite not knowing he was not associated with the movie anymore. But his efforts did not go in vain, since DiCaprio ended up leaving the profit with the Batman actor getting rehired for the role.
