Hollywood is a place where careers are made, superstars are created, and romances are kindled. The entertainment industry has always been a magnet for real-life love to blossom between co-stars and colleagues on the set. While many of these relationships have stood the test of time and have culminated in long-term commitments and marriages, a fair share have fallen by the wayside, owing to various reasons.
Hollywood is also a hotbed for stars from vastly different backgrounds who have found commonality through love. Over the years, there have been many couples who have surprised viewers by getting together to start a relationship. Among them are FRIENDS star Lisa Kudrow and television host Conan O’Brien, who dated for a short amount of time.
Lisa Kudrow and Conan O’Brien Were Once A Couple
Actress Lisa Kudrow, best known as Phoebe Buffay from the popular sitcom FRIENDS, and late-night host Conan O’Brien, briefly dated for a period. The two celebrities first met at an improvisation class, and quickly became good friends who shared a common love for wit and humor. The camaraderie then turned into a brief romance, with Kudrow gushing about O’Brien, stating,
“He was really smart, really funny, and he thought I was funny.”
Shortly following their romance, Lisa Kudrow landed her famous role in FRIENDS which then catapulted her into the big leagues as a performer. Conan O’Brien meanwhile landed an equally prestigious gig as a late-night television show host. With the couple paving their own path towards achieving fame and success, they took the practical decision together to break off their relationship after the realization that they were better off as friends rather than lovers.
The Connection Between Lisa Kudrow, Jerry Seinfeld, and FRIENDS
FRIENDS, which first aired in 1994, went on to become one of the biggest and most popular sitcoms of all time. It also made its cast, which included Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow, household names. While meeting Kudrow at a party, famous standup comedian and actor Jerry Seinfeld proudly took the credit for the stupendous success of FRIENDS saying that his iconic show Seinfeld was actually boosting the popularity of Kudrow’s show. The actor cheekily told Kudrow,
“You’re on after us in the summer, and you’re welcome.”
Seinfeld was alluding to the fact that FRIENDS gained its massive cult status mainly due to the fact that in 1995, the re-runs of Season 1 were aired directly after Season 6 re-runs of Seinfeld, which in turn garnered many more viewers than normal, owing to Jerry Seinfeld’s immense fan following. Kudrow was quick to concur with the veteran comedian’s observation and admitted that while FRIENDS Season 1 was brilliant, she was grateful to have the indirect support of Seinfeld.
