Ke Huy Quan successfully grabbed the audience’s attention after making his big comeback in Everything Everywhere All at Once. Quan recently won his first Academy Award for the category of Best Supporting Actor after delivering a praiseworthy performance in the 2022 movie.
Quan went missing from on-screen after delivering hit movies back in the 1980s as a child actor. Some of the most prominent works of Quan include Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and The Goonies. Everything Everywhere All at Once star has now thanked Harrison Ford for his present success.
Ke Huy Quan Expressed His Gratitude To Harrison Ford
Quan grabbed the public’s attention by making his acting debut in the 1984’s Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom alongside Harrison Ford. The Everything Everywhere All at Once star played the role of Short Round and his role was adored by the viewers. Ke Huy Quan then soon landed his second hit role in the 1985’s The Goonies, where he portrayed the character of Richard “Data” Wang.
Talking about his first movie which gave Quan his breakthrough in the industry, Quan expressed his sincere gratitude to Harrison Ford, who took care of the young Asian actor. It won’t be wrong to state that the present success of The Goonies star is highly influenced by his work with Ford, who mentored him previously. Quan shared that Ford even taught him swimming during their stay in Sri Lanka.
“They were so kind, and humble, and down to earth. Just loving people, human beings, that treated each other with nothing but kindness. I have such fond memories of working on it. We spent three weeks in Sri Lanka. We’d hang out by the pool. Harrison taught me how to swim.”
Ke Huy Quan On His Big Come Back
The Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom star surely enjoyed his success by delivering hit iconic roles. But soon Quan struggled to grab roles for himself. After graduating from film school at USC, Quan decided to make his new career as an assistant director and stunt coordinator. But his love and passion for acting brought Ke Huy Quan back on-screen.
“I was happy working behind the camera but I had serious FOMO. I wanted to be up there with my fellow Asian actors.”
The Goonies star shared how his hunt to land another hit role ended when he stumbled on the script of Everything Everywhere All at Once. Quan shared that he immediately fell in love with the script and knew that he was meant to play the character of Waymond Wang. Adding on to that, Ke Huy Quan shared that he could not have possibly justified his role if he received it decades back. It was his years of struggle and experience that added to leave a strong impression on the audience with his acting.
“When I read the script I thought it was written for me because they are me. I understood every single one of them. I don’t think I could have played Waymond had you given me the role 10, 15 years ago. Looking back upon my life, all the highs and lows, I reached deep within me to pour my entire life into these three different characters.”
It looks like the comeback of Ke Huy Quan has made it clear that he still has a lot of potential as an actor. It is truly a gift to the industry that the actor decided to come back on screen. Quan grabbed several awards for his impressive come back which includes an Academy Award, Golden Globes award, and much more.
