The replacement of Walter Hamada with new DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran sparked a glitter of hope for DCU fans. The change came at a time when the DCU was at one of its lowest points, suffering hugely from many of its then-developing projects being thrown in the bin by Warner Bros. to cut costs while merging with Discovery Inc.
However, the two new heads of DC Studios haven’t been too bad. Reports about the pair looking to revamp the DCU with a whole new list of actors and characters (existing DC characters, that is) have been met with praise and approval from fans. But doing so requires showing some fan-favorite actors the door, and fans feel like the problematic ones should be let go too.
James Gunn’s New Superman Idea Followed By Sad Henry Cavill Note
When Henry Cavill made his Superman return in the latest DCU release Black Adam, fans hoped that this would finally mark his much-awaited return to the franchise. Cue James Gunn and Peter Safran’s appointment as heads of DC Studios.
Regardless of that Instagram post where Cavill himself hyped up his return to the DCU with a whole new costume, Gunn and Safran had other plans. The Guardians of the Galaxy director eventually announced that he was working on a new Superman movie, but one big factor was that Henry Cavill would have no role in it.
Cavill, which fans would assume is disappointed by the news, got the big talk from the new co-CEOs after having met with them. He shared his side of the story on Instagram, writing-
“I will, after all, not be returning as Superman. After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life. The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes.”
It has truly been a tumultuous set of events for the British actor, who had already canceled a return for the third season of The Witcher and will now have to look for greener pastures- possibly in Westeros or the MCU.
Fans Call Out James Gunn For Firing Henry Cavill But Excluding Problematic Actors
The DCU has two notorious and high-profile actors who have been making the news quite a lot lately, and James Gunn and Peter Safran will have to make some tough decisions about them too.
Amber Heard, as the whole internet knows, has been the subject of a lot of criticism for the whole Johnny Depp case. Ezra Miller, on the other hand, has also been the subject of numerous controversies, with them being on the wrong side of it every time.
Fans are saddened by the departure of Henry Cavill as Superman, officially confirmed by James Gunn. But the fact that the Argylle star is being shown the door without any controversial record, while problematic actors like Amber Heard and Ezra Miller still retain their roles has angered many fans.
DC fans on Twitter have voiced their opinion on this bias, and they’re raging loud –
They could fit into The Boys –
Who’s calling the shots? –
Hopefully, Liam Hemsworth hasn’t suited up yet –
It just gets worse-
An unintentional master plan? –
What James Gunn and Peter Safran will do about these two specific actors will be seen only in the future. If they do want to revamp the DCU, there’s no reason to think that Amber Heard and Ezra Miller won’t be shown the door as well.
Man of Steel is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
