Scarlett Johansson is known as a bombshell in Hollywood. The actress achieved global stardom as MCU’s Black Widow and also has plenty of great films under her belt like Jojo Rabbit, Lost in Translation, Her, and Match Point, among others. The last film was directed by Woody Allen and she co-starred in the project with Jonathan Rhys Meyers. However, the erotic scenes of the film left Johansson bruised.
Match Point was the first of Johansson’s three films with Woody Allen. It was the only film where the MCU star was opposite Meyers. During an interview, Johansson revealed that her co-star sent her flowers to apologize for hurting her during their steamy scenes.
Scarlett Johansson Talks About The Bloody Erotic Scene
Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Rhys Meyers sat down for an interview with Movieweb in 2005 to promote Match Point. During the conversation, the interviewer asked Johansson about the steamy scenes in the film and how it felt to film a particular scene where the two were in the rain. To this, the actress mentioned that she was actually miserable while filming because not only was the water cold but Meyers had bitten her lip as well.
She said:
“I’d have to say the only nice thing about it was Jonathan’s warm and sweet embrace. First of all, I was in this very conveniently thin shirt, and it was pouring rain, and it’s that kind of movie rain where it pelts you with this freezing cold water… He really bit my lip actually.”
However, the actress said that Meyers was considerate and sent her flowers as an apology for his actions. Johansson said, “Jonathan busted my lip open and sent me flowers the next day because he felt bad. It was so sweet. Damn hurt though, I deserved my flowers.” The Marvel actress also talked about her equation with Woody Allen on the sets.
Scarlett Johansson And Her Playful Relationship With Woody Allen
During the interview, Movieweb asked Scarlett Johansson what it was like working with Woody Allen. She said that the director is funny and their relationship is casual. After 2005’s Match Point, the actress worked with him on 2006’s Scoop As per Johansson:
“We’re kind of a good duo in that way—I can set him up and he’s just a goofball. And that was kind of how it went about. It was very casual, I left the project and said, ‘I’ll be writing you and sending you letters” and before we knew it, it was time to shoot again.”
The Hollywood star further said that it’s an honor working with Allen. She said, “Woody and I have a playful relationship. I think he wanted to do a comedy and so he wrote a comedy (Scoop) for us… I felt it was a real honor for me and a lot of fun. It’s nice to know that somebody likes you as much as you like them.”
Scoop wasn’t the last collaboration of the Black Widow actress with the director. They did another movie together called Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008). Nowadays, Johansson is busy with Project Artemis and Asteroid City.
Match Point is available on Hulu.
