Will Smith Was Interrogated By His Wife For A Scene in I, Robot

Released in 2004, I, Robot was directed by Alex Proyas which featured Will Smith and Bridget Moynahan in the lead role. The film is loosely based on the book of the same name by Isaac Asimov, where robots and humans co-exist in a world. The movie was one of a kind, that featured a gripping storyline with well-choreographed action scenes that kept its audience at the edge of their scenes.

However, the Men in Black actor got in serious trouble as the film featured a n*de scene. During an exclusive interview with Female First, Sharon Stone stated that she was impressed by what she saw in the scene.

“He looks very good in the n*de. Tell him thank you from me.”

However, in a different interview, the actor stated that his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith was not amused by the idea of him performing unclothed scenes in the 2004 film. She made him sit down and interrogated him before Smith managed to convince her that he was not involved with his I, Robot co-star, Bridget Moynahan.

“She didn’t like it when I came home with my skin all baby soft after performing n*de. And she didn’t like it either when I came home with my body all covered in bruises. I got away with the shower scene when I explained I wasn’t with Bridget and the n*dity was relevant to the movie.”

While Will Smith managed to convince his wife that his n*ked scenes were relevant to the film. Viewers did not see his g**ital as the scene was removed for the American audience.

Will Smith’s Shower Scene Cost Fortunes To I, Robot

The Collateral Beauty actor would go to great lengths to flawlessly play his character. During an interview, Smith explained that he even consulted with psychologists to solidify the role of his character as it “suffers from a psychological condition called survivor’s guilt.” He sent a copy of the script to the psychologists to understand his character’s behavior.

“My character suffers from a psychological condition called survivor’s guilt, all right? … I sent a script to a group of psychologists and asked them, ‘Tell me what this character’s behavior would be.’ And they said paranoia was one of the things.”

Smith added, that he noted the pieces of advice of the psychologists, which he would later implement in the shower scene of the film.

A still from I, Robot

“[There’s] no shower curtain, with the gun hanging over the thing, and they said he would never be able to wash his hair, because he wouldn’t close his eyes in the shower. So it’s, you know, those kinds of things. But you probably have to have a degree in psychology to take all of that out of it. But it gives it a certain level of reality when … you know that that much thought went into it, and even if you don’t, it’s just kind of a cool n*ked guy.”

Smith continued that the shower scene was supposed to be longer than shown in the final cut because the scene comprised a “full frontal n**ity,” that had to be removed because the American audience would make a big deal out of it. Hence, adding to the expense of the film.

“It’s interesting, because America’s the only place that it’s really a big deal. Actually, you know, the scene in this movie was actually a full frontal n**ity, but they had to digitally remove …Yeah, it was the most expensive CG shot, just to remove it, for the American audience.”

Will Smith’s effort to become one with his character in I, Robot was successful, as critics and viewers found his portrayal mesmerizing. The actor played the role of Detective Del Spooner in 2035 where he is not comfortable living alongside robots. The 2004 film was a success as it earned $ 348.6 million worldwide at the box office.
