Ben Affleck made his DC debut as Bruce Wayne in the 2016 Zack Snyder film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice alongside Henry Cavill. Although both of them did not have that many opportunities to bring the DC superheroes on-screen, they earned praise for their performances, and fans still wished to see more of their work as Batman and Superman. Their DC roles were also the ones that led them to bulk up and get in shape, and while starring in the 2016 film, they started working out together.
However, the Batman actor has a lot to say about his co-star’s physique, as he claimed that he hated working out with him and took credit for his muscular physique.
Ben Affleck Hated Working Out With Henry Cavill
Henry Cavill followed a strict diet and a heavy workout schedule to get in shape for his DC debut as Superman in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. He then starred alongside Ben Affleck in the 2016 film Batman v Superman, and made sure to stay in shape for these films as well, as he did not want to be a “fat Superman.”
And he is proud of what he achieved while preparing for the role. However, his DC co-star, Affleck, claims to be the one behind his physique. During an interview with Men’s Health, the Deep Water star talked about working out with Cavill.
“I wouldn’t say we worked out so much as I acted as Henry’s trainer,” he joked before adding that he helped him gain muscle mass. Affleck also shared that The Witcher star looked “Gumby” before his coaching and that he had to help him to gain muscle mass for the 2016 movie.
“In all honesty, we did work out together. And I hated it,” he further shared. Cavill has also shared that he was a bit “intimidated” by the Batman actor, which gave him the push and desire to be as good as his co-star, and he was able to do it with his help.

Ben Affleck Was Nervous to Match Henry Cavill’s Physique
Henry Cavill went through a remarkable transformation for his 2013 film Man of Steel. And when Ben Affleck was cast alongside him in the second Snyderverse film, the actor was a bit nervous about living up to the physical expectations for the role of Batman.
“That was very daunting. I thought if I have to be as good a shape as this guy, I think I’m in trouble,” he said. Many DC fans were also concerned about The Town star’s physique for playing the superhero, as he was already in his 40s. However, Affleck was not ready to give up. He worked out “for almost a year” before Batman v Superman.
“It was a lot of protein and not a lot of carbs, but just you know, eating like 4 or 5 times a day and lifting weights for couple hours a day,” he said while explaining how he got in shape for the 2016 movie. He reprised his role in Justice League and is all set for his final appearance as the Dark Knight in The Flash.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is available on HBO Max.
The Flash is set to release on June 16, 2023.
